My uncle bought a couple of these cars back in the early 90s and we had a blast racing them under grandmas covered porch.

I was scrolling through ebay a few nights ago looking for basketball cards when I saw a listing for them.

I ended up buying two. One brand new, the other one with broken parts and rotted batteries.

The brand new one works but only if the antenna from the controller is touching to antenna off the car.

How can I fix this?  I took them to an RC shop and they wouldn't even look at them since they were old.

I know i could buy the awesome new ones, but I wanted these for the nostalgia of reliving the glory days.

Any help would be appreciated. Wanted to have them up and running by Christmas morning for the grandkids to play with.

I had one of those too. It still may be boxed away somewhere. I have two thoughts...one easy and one not so much.

1) Easy: try replacing the batteries in the controller. I seem to remember when the batteries got week the range of the controller went down.

2) Not Easy: there is a lot more electronic signal interference around now then when these things were made. I'm worried you're getting interference in the radio signal. Maybe try taking it somehwhere and see what happens but it may be something tough to overcome.

I replaced the batteries.  I think you might be on point about the interference.   I'm going to have my brother take it down to the sand pit in South Carolina this week and see what happens.

Haven't had it out for a very long time, but still have my Tyco Turbo Outlaw.  I made a Wing for mine.  Well, actually several wings as I'd flip the thing every now and then.

Can't see that I'll get rid of the thing.

One game I wish I kept from when I was a kid was Kenner's "Redline" Drag Racing Game.
