I know there is certain criteria to be part of the WOO. Drivers like Kraig Kinser formerly one of the best are still a draw but a few others usually are field fillers when less than full field. They do have a nice point fund.I know it costs over $1K if you consider motor freshinings to run Knoxville competively so add in travel its more than the prestige of being part of. The top teams ask for over $1M from the big sponsers which I was told it takes over $ 10/20M to run a start and park NASCAR team. Thanks!

Well, next year you can add brad sweet to the "formally one of the best". Kraig being formally one of the best? I believe he is a filler!
Ascot was the greatest of all time..
West Capital wasn't half bad either..
Life is good...

I don't think we will ever know what it pays to run a WoO type team or what they get payed. There are a lot of percentages that come into play as far as funds are distributed. A few years ago I heard it cost 1000 bucks to race a competitive sprint car each time out, now I've heard the cost to be 6-7 thounsand dollars per race. Is this true, we may never know?

$4000/night if you estimate $15,000 engine rebuild over 15 nights, 4 rear tires, fuel for the car, oil, filters, grease, aerosols, other consumables, 4 pit passes and everyone gets 1 hot dog and a coke, ect... assuming zero broken parts.
That is operating cost for a WoO caliber CAR to run 1 night from the time you pull in the pits to the time you pull out of the pits. That does not include truck fuel, generator fuel, crew pay, driver pay, hotel, spare parts or anything else needed to run the team.
Can guys do it for less? Yes, do they win against the outlaws? Not very often.

That figure seems believable. I consider almost every part on a race car a wear item, from bars to bearings, seals, nuts and bolts, and more, they all have a limited life span. You have to figure in replacement cost of all of those goodies too. I have to think with all the other add ons you mentioned the price per night could be a couple of thousand more. You have to win or finish second to make anything, you might break even with a third place finish. That seems to have been the racing pay structure for quite some time I suppose.

Swank says the big teams are at $10k a night in expenses. That's right around $700-800k per year. Obviously not every team is at that level. The advantage that running with the WoO provides is you don't have to win a lot of races to have a great year. Gio won 1 race and cleared over $300k with the outlaws including point money.

Gio didn't make that. The TEAM had that for an income. I don't believe tow money and other incentives are in that number either.

I'd say thats pretty accurate for costing. Paying crew guys, a crew chief, driver, hotel rooms, diesel fuel, truck and trailer maintenance isnt cheap. The higher the level the higher the cost.

1 million for top teams sponsorship dollars. WoO pays 1500 to top teams, plus 4 pit passes per show. 10 shows, 15k which can pay for a motor rebuild if it's a std rebuild. When we raced you pd your Hoosier rep 5k to get dealer pricing on tires. That 5 K got you 45 to 50 tires dependent on what you ordered. Today I'm told that number is 15k. Rod ends buy in back then was 200.00 so you see and understand why many racers of all forms of motor racing attend the PRI show. You try and make as many deals as possible.

This is strictly purse money, it doesn't include point fund, tow money etc...
