The attendance has dropped A LOT. I know there are other reasons too, but the big reason is because people stay at home or go to local bars to watch instead of going in person . The are a few local bars within 5 miles of the track that show the races live . They have GAINED customers that used to actually go to the track . Many more locals stay at home and watch. Within a one hour radius , it would be many , many more people that do the same.

You are correct. I know of about 15 people who I know personally, work with etc. I can count off the top of my head who were regular/semi regular attendees 3-5 years ago who don't go at all anymore. Haven't been to one all year this year and some even didn't go at all last year. Their reasons are all basically the same, late nights with the kids and cost. Flo is cheaper and when it runs late, the kids can just to bed. A lot of it is definitely self inflicted but the affordability and convenience of Flo is tough to compete with too. Especially when attending a race requires you to be there and no where else whereas with Flo, you can watch on your phone while sitting along the river fishing or while out to dinner at the bar with friends & family. If they could lower prices I think some of the people I know would go back based on that alone. It's definitely a rock and a hard place.

I have brought this up before, but don't know if it's possible. Does anyone know if it would be possible to "blackout" within a certain radius of a track? TV used to do this for the NFL for example. Is it possible with streaming? I know this would be tough on certain people, especially those unable to attend the races due to age or physical issues. Just wondering if it's even possible.

Yes , there is a way around it . I don't know everything about it , but I think it's called a VPN , where as it doesnt show your true location.

We use a VPN at work. I can work from home but the computer server is in another area 50 miles away. It will show where the server is not your home address.

There is a way for Apps to not work if going through a VPN also where if you are logged in through a VPN the app will not allow you in.
NFL uses a 75 mile rule for their blackout policy I believe. I think 120 blackout on races would be a good start.

I'm curious as to how this purchase equates to "they are gonna take on the Outlaws". We can assume the ASCOC had a successful business model. We can assume High Limit also has a successful business model. So why would you, as a successful business buy another successful business and immediately change the business models of the businesses? I see this as a big nothingburger as far as the infrastructure of the "state of spring car racing". High Limit will probably still run weekday high paying shows and ASCOC will probably still run as a regional series, at least next year.

Boy I wish you are right, but I think it is wishful thinking. This is all about FLO and their streaming content. They are throwing their money behind this venture to take on Dirtvision. I do not see this as "Let's all place nice" for the good of the sport.

Correct, you don't. But a series like that will not dethrone the Outlaws then. A series like that does not directly compete with a series that has all of those perks. I don't disagree a series like this wouldn't be great. However, in the terms you are suggesting, it will not be a direct threat to a tour that races 70-90 times per year, and pays tow and points money to its members.

who said they would dethrone the WOO-ZERS anyway. they are washed up with how many full time regulars, 15 or so? Larson #1, has the dinero, #2 has the talent and business sense #3 flo is a partner, #4 its time for a change IMO...
Ascot was the greatest of all time..

How 'bout something from left field? What would happen if you had a sanctioning body that didn't have to play all the money games? Let's just say you didn't pay tow money. You didn't have a big points fund. Suppose, instead of feeling you had to force racers to tow the line or lose out on all that money they might get, you put all that money into the purse? Then you work on lowering the cost to race. Stay in the center part of the country, east of the Rockies. Work in a big circle perhaps. Don't go back and forth accross the country. Have a tire rule that doesn't pay off a certain manufacturer. Why not any tire that meets a certain hardness test? If you made this the series where racers could make a living easier and have less stress, you should be able to pull in the cream of the crop.

Do you know who the vast majority of fans are who come to an Outlaw show? It's not the hard core HH members worried about purses and tow money. It's families who go every year and see or hear that the Outlaws are coming to town and round up the wife and kids and go to the races. The Outlaws came out on top the last two times because of their name recognitio. When thy WoO rolls into town the way it stands now we know we're going to see Schatz, Sweet, Gravel and Haud. The kids are excited because they want to meet their favorites. That's the purpose of signing on with the series. Life wasn't that way prior to 1978, you never knew who the hell was going to show up.

Never judge reality about attending races based on that hundred or so hard core fans who would drive 1,000 miles to see a race. They're the ones that are still single at 80 because nobody wanted to do just one thing for the rest of their lives.

Maybe Brad and Kyle simply plan to continue what Tony was doing, a mostly regional series. Maybe they'll continue with their mid-week deal, or maybe they won't. We'll find out when the 2024 schedule is published.
Given Brad and Kyle have Cali roots (and they promote Chico), it will be interesting to see if they decide to take the All Stars that far west. I will be very surprised if that happens.

Outllaws had 13 cars and All Stars had 6 cars follow the group all year. Where are all these hig quality cars and drivers coming from to support the series?
Pennsylvania had to import drivers from other states just to run Pa based cars on a local level.

I don't know enough to agree or disagreel with your post. I do know I've attended 3 Chili Bowls. In recent years I've relied on Flo. Whether I'm there, or not, those stands are full, especially later in the week. Streaming lets those of us that can't attend see the action. Maybe some of us will attend a future event. I think the same situation is true with the Knoxville Nationals. Full stands but many thousand more watching online. Traveling series can use streaming to entice people to come to an event near them. Flo is a bargain and I expect to see an increase in the annual fee sometime soon. DirVision is way too expensive for me so I completely miss at WoO events. I don't see the value, especially compared to Flo.

Hopefully Larson and Sweet are truly trying to help racers, but I highly doubt it! Long live the Outlaws if it comes down to that! I respect what the WoO has don e for almost 50 years to help the sport! Hell without them over the years I'm not even sure we would even have sprintcars to watch. we'll see what happens but I got a feeling Larson and Sweet are looking to pick a fight and that ain't good for the sport.

I think you misunderstood what I wrote. I'm not advocating putting all that money upfront for anything like a winner take all race. Take all that money that would be paid out to keep 12 drivers racing at only your races, and spread it over the field. Would guys like Marks be more willing to show up if every spot in the feature paid $1000 more.
Tires- somebody plase explain that to me. If you checked that the tire was a certain hardness before the race, and then checked again after the race, would that tell you if someone doped the tire?.
For sprint car racing, I think we are in the cycle of "it eas the best of times and it was the worst of times". I think i saw somewhere that something like 1700 people have raced in a sprint car in the USA so far this year. And yet, the sport is ruled by one company that controls the 12 best and best financed race teams putting on a "show" for the people where the fastest (and best financed) teams that can buy all the same high dollar equipment race in a program that rewards being fast byt not neccisarily passing anyone. I don't know if that's healthy in the long run.

I agree 100%.....and I am a huge Kyle Larson fan. He is the only reason I tune into NASCAR races on Sunday. I try to watch every time he races on dirt in a sprint car or DLM on FLO & Dirtvision. That being said, I am worried about whether this is good for the sport.

I'm not advocating for either series here, but your post made me think of a couple things...
About who goes to WoO races- Are you also describing the people that go to monster truck shows and professional wrestling? In that case, isn't it all about the promotion? Wouldn't HL promote the same way to appeal to the same demographic? In 5 years, won't one or both WoO and HL have a different set of fast guys?

If they promote sprint car racing to attract the Monster Truck and Professional Wrestling crowd eventually the sprint car fans will stop going. Here in Pa. many sprint car fans don't attend WOO shows because of the crazy's who show up at them. Then when those people see a different shiny object and move to that and sprint car fans are gone then sprint car racing will be gone. I hope one group or the other knows who keeps sprint car racing alive for the long run instead of just a fad to make a few bucks today. You have to have families going not just bunch of old guys or young groupies. That is where Port Royal is making a mistake in my opinion. Too many special high dollar shows and not enough regular priced Sat. night shows that families can attend together. That is where future fans come from.

You're exactly right. They need more regular Saturday night shows. But they've kinda backed themselves into a corner on that one. They've inflated purses but that hasn't equalled very many new teams and fans aren't going to show up for those races and pay the admission price it takes to pay those purses.
