If you forget the words again to our National anthem try not to say "oh fuck" while singing it.

I honestly don't understand why people forget the words.  It's not like you haven't heard the song a few times...

I also don't understand getting people who can't sing or can barely sing to do it.   If you can't find a good singer play a recording for cryin' out loud...

The guy who does Husets should sing it..He's kinda a show but he is good..

My wife has sung at a few weddings and was the lead in multiple musicals when we were first married.  She has not sung the National Anthem, but she said it is very easy to forget the words of some very popular songs when you are facing an audience.  Want a good laugh?  Look up Family Feud fails on Youtube.  (its the dumbest show ever, but the fails are funny)  Same thing-----words don't come easy when you're under the gun.  

Huh? Every time I've been to Husets starting in 1984, they've had someone different each week. They run the full range of awesome to painful. There have been lots of repeats, including the guy who seems to be trying to beat his own fastest time record.

I can understand someone getting stagefright and messing up the lyrics when not used to performing in front of an audience. Selinsgrove used to have a guy play it on the trumpet. It was great.

I still don't get why we have to hear it for every sporting event everyday from little league games to lil Johny's soccer game. 

It has become more over played than Stair Way to Heaven. Kinda like a prayer before every sporting event. I would think the magic sky man would have better shit to think about than some race in the middle of nowhere or helping lil Johny pass a math test. Indoctrination is dangerous. 

If people want to hear someone play the anthem for every lil thing, at least play just an instrumental version. Nobody cares about Betty Lou from Alamaba pretending she can sing because her cousin/husband told her she has talent. It's become a Karaoke song in hillbillie bars. Kind of diminish's the meaning don't ya think.  Just Say'n.

I can relate.  Standing in front of a crowd with a guitar hanging over the shoulder has a similar memory blocking effect.  I knew a lot of folks in my office days who thought public speaking was easy.  Should have seen them when they joined Toastmasters and had to do an extemporaneous speech with minutes to prepare.  Singing the Anthem or anything in front of a crowd is much harder than it seems.  That's why fear of giving a speech ranks near the top of a lot of people's biggest fears.
