So far this year there have been 5 High Limit Sprint Car Series races. In those races, the winner's average starting postion was 6th. The number of lead changes was 4.4 per race. (I'm counting when someone clearly  passed another and took over the lead, not just counting who was the leader at the flagstand.)

What makes these races more exciting than a WoO race? The format is virtually the same- fast cars start at the front so that heat races don't mean a thing. The top running cars are the equal of the top running WoO cars. Shouldn't the results be about the same?

One factor I can see is that none of these races have been on a big track. What do you think is the difference?

You're spot on with the size of the track. That is the biggest factor In my opinion.

What's the difference?  Kyle Larson, a notoriously "meh" qualifier, runs the Hi-Limit Series and not the WoO.  I believe his average start in the past 3 race wins was 5th?   Take him out of the High-Limit Series, and place him in the Outlaws, and the starting position of the winner will suddenly become a larger number.  Number of passes for the lead would increase for the WoO and decrease in the High Limit Series.  Put him starting P5 in the last 3 Outlaw races and he will likely take the lead at some point in all 3 races and possibly win all 3.  JMO

Hm... If that's true, there should have been fireworks in the last 3 WoO races Larson raced in- right? I'll have to go look that up.

It's also a lot harder to pass David Gravel for the lead than Chase Randall. Field quality at the top and throughout the field matters.

Or Brian Brown, I guess. It's not like there wasn't some top notch competition at the High Limit races.

It seems to me that formats that are set up to start the fastest cars up front- where they finish up front- will eventually lose their appeal.

I disagree. I think what's happened with this format is youve ensured the fast cars are battling up front which has made for more intense racing for the lead. Dont get me wrong, I wish High Limit would follow a different format than the Outlaws, but the racing is as good as it's ever been, so at the very least the format doesn't kill the racing.

I'm not certain that we're getting that intense racing for the lead when there's a lot of winning from the front row. It's not limited to WoO, High Limit, etc.. I just love reading a race report that says something like "Fireball led the race early, until Lightning passed for the lead going into turn 2 on the 2nd lap". Or, "Thunderbolt lead all 30 laps to win...".

Maybe it's time to eliminate heat races. They don't really matter in the scheme of things and they put mor laps on that track surface everybody is up in arms about.

Do you not watch sprint cars on the streaming services? This is the golden age my friend.

That did kind of sound like I should have mentioned getting those kids off my lawn! Smile

I don't stream. I either watch races live or find myself watching recaps online or...gasp! reading race recaps online.

Sure, there's more racing available to view now than there ever was. Is it as entertaining as it ever was? It seems like with all this competition being so equal, the guys that time fast start up front and more races are won from the front row without much, if any passing. Is that entertaining? It's telling that Brad Sweet can even see this. He's rolls the dice to see if anyone wiil take a challenge abd start the High Limit feature further back. And he 's not getting much interest from the drivers.
