There's been alot of discussion over the past weeks about engine rules for the factory stocks, and I was wondering if it would help or hurt the class if they went to a crate engine rule? If the whole class went to a spec engine, say a 350 crate engine, then everyone would have the same motor and then the difference would be the car and driver.

I don't have a dog in this fight. I'm just wondering what people think about this.

to tell u the truth they just need to enforce the rules they have. take away the heads. make it a open chamber rule no double humps. 882 heads r stock and open chamber, real easy to tech. anyways my opinion is it is all in the heads!!!!!!dusty

Many things have been said and or tried over the years, no matter what you do you will never have rules that will satisfy everyone sad but true, but each track & promoter have there own set of rules and if you want to run a certain track then you have to run those rules, there is no real salution to this, cause no matter what rules are put in place you can't please everyone. just my opinion.

That's really less of an opinion Danny, and more of a glaring fact. Even if motors were provided free of charge, someone would complain about something. You really can't please everyone. And I'm not talking about any class in particular. I'm referring to people in general.

See ya tonight.

Bucky I think you are right. Even sprint cars up in Missouri - I think it was Lake Ozark Speedway (may be wrong) runs crate motors. It's a good idea and over tiem would work.........but I think just as with any class there are several different things that could work.

I don't think ti would ever happen. because even if it is only a couple quick things to tech - thats more teching than Lanny wans to do. The only thing he wants to do is check weight and every now and then another thing or 2. No matter what the rules are - they are ineffective if not enforced. I think that is the beginning to the problem.

And obviously many were unsatisfied with it - what is it now? almost 10 drivers that are leaving the class? and if the problem that looks like will happen actually does - with very few cars - it stinks that it will have to be addressed after the start of the season. Unless the 65, 90, and 87 are lookin to switch to another class - along with a few more I can't recall at the moment - then I would think the few regs left who intend to run Factory Stocks would step up about the rules issue. It seems to me the only way they will have a respectable car count will be if cars from other tracks in the region come in. Like you Bucky - I don't have a dog in this fight either - just a fan who wonders what's gonna end up happening with it. it is kind of interesting - of course - it's the off-season too.

Here are a few things I found online..........

The International Motor Contest Association (IMCA),organized in 1915, is the oldest active automobile racing sanctioning body in the United States. IMCA is based on enforcing fair and consistent rules that promote affordability as the foundation of racing in America. Through the promotion of the grassroots weekly racer, IMCA has continued to see remarkable growth throughout the last decade.

In 2005 IMCA introduced the Sport Mod class, which is the perfect racecar for a tight economy. The sealed CT350 engine from GMPP is approved as an option, and was very successful in the inaugural year. At the IMCA SuperNationals, a SportMod driven by Carl Fredrickson, editor for Speedway Illustrated, took the checkered flag with a GMPP #88958602 between the frame rails.

Engine - CT350/350

Designed for circle track's weekend warriors, this bullet-proof 350-horsepower, 350-cubic-inch factory-sealed racing engine is a tough combination of power and reliability, and it fits almost any racing budget.
Based on GM Performance Parts' popular 350 HO engine, including a brand-new, four-bolt-main block, 9:1 hypereutectic pistons, cast iron crankshaft and GM iron Vortec cylinder heads, the 350/350 Factory Stock version features a high-rise dual-plane intake manifold, 8-quart single kick-out circle track oil pan, valve cover kit with breather tube and breather, and special "kool nut" rocker arm nut design.

This engine is in stock at GMpartsDirect.com

CORE CHARGE: $0.00
GM LIST: $4,286.00
OUR PRICE: $3,120.21

I don't know about everyone else, but I just WISH my motors only cost $3100!
