They need to do away with the name ,"Turkey Night Grand prix"
If there going to change the tradition from running on Thanksgiving to running after , then call it something else.
Just false advertisment it's not Turkey night !!!
JC had it right and now the younger generations think they know better.
Some things just need to be left alone.

Turkey Night needs to go back to running on Thanksgiving day as it has since the start decades ago. Ventura is a good host for the show but you could fire a 12 gauge into the stands the first night and probably not hit a single person.
Also needs to go back to just the midgets and drop the USAC nonwinged Sprints, They brought nearly 50 cars this year, and as much as I enjoy them, they just help make the show interminally long. In the time it takes to prep the track before the main you could make a turkey Lasagna dinner for 8 and feed them and not miss a thing on FLO except watching an empty track.
The actual 100 lap Midget main was a very long flip filled event that had to challenge the most diehard Midget fan but that's hard to cure on Ventura's 1/5 mile. I lived in Ventura area for 25 years and attended many a race there and love the joint. If I hadn't moved north many years ago I would have been in attendence and am thankful I just watched it on the tube.

By looking at the crowd on Saturday night, it looked like a success at the front gate. While it may not be the traditional date, it is an easier date for most people to attend. Just think of all of the people who asked thier wife for a hall pass and got a hard no for Thursday. Now how many people were able to get a hall pass for Saturday. After three solid days togehter, many wifes might have been telling thier husbands to leave.
I understand for me to be able to go to the race track that the promoter has to make money. While I don't like for traditions to die, I would rather have the Turkey night grand prix on Saturday versus not having it at all.

I've been to 39 of the 81 Turkey Night Grand Prix's. The list includes 15 times at Ascot Park Gardena, 5 times at Perris Auto Speedway, 13 times at Irwindale Speedway, and 6 times at Ventura Raceway.

I do not think races should be on Thanksgiving night. People have family plans that they need to go to. Also a track promoter has to have enough paid fans to cover cost of purse. They could run entire 360 show and midget practice the night before and just midgets on second day. A thought.

I agree. I've wanted to go for a long time, but wouldn't want to insult my cousin by not having Thanksgiving dinner with her...

1. The crowd looked pretty damn good
2. Keep the name. It does not bother me if it's two days later.
3. I want to go.
