In defense of racing announcer most date back to before streaming. They were hired to whip up crowds at live dirt track races but that over the top style doesn't always fit well with television. To me it comes across like pro wrestling when they get too crazy. Wrestling style hype isn't my thing but I suppose some like it.

Pretty much how I think....just watch the race & ignore the announcers
If this is our biggest problem, we're VERY lucky people!

Thought the same thing about Earl a few years ago when he first started...It might sound stange, but he actually grew on me...He doesn't scream as much anymore...He loves the sport with all his soul and I have experienced worst announcers in my day...I am willing to give him more time to get seasoned!!!

Some or most never change. I went to school with a guy who was very annoying. Fifty years later he still is. I actually consider Earl to slightly better than the last guy but he should not consider that to be a compliment. I would like for all announcers to go mute when the green flag drops. I am quite able to decide whether or not a race is good without anyone else's opinion.

the late Jack (Holy Cow) Miller believed in shutting the mike off every now and then, whereas some announcers start yapping nonstop as soon as the gates open and don’t stop till the final checkered flag falls, with very little info pertaining to racing being said.

Jack Miller was the greatest announcer this sport has ever had. He said it best when he noted that " The announcer should talk with his audience, not at them". He also said something to the effect that it's sometimes not about what you do say, it's about what you don't say, that sometimes, quiet is good.

earl seems like a great guy who is very passionate about racing. he can come off as a little intense at times...but i'll always defend somebody who shows up early for things like the greg hodnett 5k and helps to make it happen.
everybody thinks they can be a track announcer...and these days everybody thinks they can be a teacher, doctor, police officer, and just about everything else. nobody knows what those jobs are really like and the amount of work that's involved. just because you "did your own research" doesn't mean you can take over. it would be nice if we could just stay in our lanes and respect what other people try to do to make our lives better.

He is in the Public Relations department at Port Royal. He "shows up early" because it's part of his JOB.
