Low point totals on night 1. Will be interesting to see how far the top wed. qualifyers get shuffled back!

Yeah those low points totals are because it's so hard to pass anyone in heat races anymore. 20+ years ago, you saw cars coming from 10th to qualify and win heat races all the time. Now it's damn tough just to go from 8th to 4th. The cars are more even and the track is just hard to pass on early in the night. It's all about the start because once they get spread out it's over. That's just a fact of modern day sprint car racing. Heat invert needs to be lowered to 6 IMO. Otherwise you have guys who time poorly and get inverted to the front, make the A main without passing anyone and then of course go backwards in the A main. These guys end up with more points than a guy who times much better and actually passes cars during the night but misses the A by a spot or 2. That shouldn't be. The other option would be make passing points more heavily weighted, maybe subtract points for getting passed.

Track was on the edge of benign a little wet. Cream still rose to the top and made it in. We are only a few years removed from a perfect 500 night that included the 8 car invert. Leave it alone for Pete's sake.... go to six car invert and the quick time guy has the transfer by turn one.... you just took all the excitement out of a 10 lap heat races.

The format is just fine. Those guys that started at the front of the heats but went backwards in the feature...they are in the 20's in points right now. The quick qualifiers who had a bad heat and passed all those guys going backwards in the feature? They are in the top 10 in points. The ones who were fast everytime they hit the track? There's your top 5. The format works like it supposed to, the quickest way to ruin the Nationals is to lower the invert any further.

That's not entirely true. Roger Crockett didn't qualify and still had the 15th most points which was higher than any of the guys who qualified poorly and made the show. Also it's completely irrelevant what your point total is outside of the top 26 overall nowadays given everyone outside of That has to requalfiy on Friday.
The format allows everyone to make a little money and have a shot at making an A main. Just because PA guys stink at Knoxville doesnt mean the Posse fans have to continue to bitch about the format year after year.

Guess Gio missed your memo, because he passed cars and now is the high point guy for that! We will see what tonight has to offer. Drink a cocktail and enjoy
Where's my beer or scotch on the rocks? God-damn it! 40
plus years of dirt track racing in these old veins might
get me condemned by the EPA.
