Bud Kaeding finishes 8th in Saturday Trophy Cup main event

By Gary Thomas

Tulare, CA – November 20, 2007…Bud Kaeding has experienced a great end of the 2007 racing season and he put a cap on the year with an eighth place finish in the 40 lap Trophy Cup finale this past Saturday night at Tulare’s Thunderbowl Raceway.

The current USAC Silver Crown Series champion sat behind the wheel of the Werbach Motorsports, Los Gatos Construction Company No. 20 for the two night event that benefits the Make-A-Wish-Foundation. A huge field of 82 cars converged at the 1/3 mile Thunderbowl Raceway on Friday night and Bud got the event started off by timing in 17th quickest with a best lap of 13.844. A fifth place finish in his heat race however, put the 27 year-old into the night’s 20 lap B-main event, which saw several talented drivers in the line-up.

Starting from the front row Bud got the jump on the field and held the rest of the drivers at bay until he felt pressure from father Brent. The younger BK held off the multiple attempts from the ’07 King of California before Brandon Wimmer was able to get around Brent for the runner-up spot. Wimmer then tried several times to get by Bud, but during each one the Campbell driver got the bite he needed off the bottom of the speedway. At the checkered flag Bud brought home the B-main victory to transfer him into the feature where he went on to finish 17th after having brake problems toward the end of the 30 lap contest.

Bud came into Saturday night’s action sitting 16th in the overall Trophy Cup points and he lined up on the inside of the third row in the opening heat race. The track was slick and racy and after bringing home a fourth place finish, he was set for the 40 lap, totally inverted main event. The track had dried out considerably and there was rubber being taken by the surface, which made for limited passing opportunities later on in the feature. Bud started from the outside of row five and after falling back a little ways early on, he began to dice it up with many of the top drivers in the West Coast sprint car racing scene including brother Tim, Jonathan Allard and Roger Crockett.

When the final caution of the race came out on lap 31, he was sitting in the 10th position on the raceway. After going back green he was able to make up a couple more spots to bring home an eighth place finish aboard the Werbach Motorsports, Kaeding Performance No. 20. Bud performed well driving the 20 machine the last couple months in limited starts and it was great for him to have the opportunity to compete once again at the Trophy Cup.

It has been a very solid end of the season for Bud and showed the true talent he has behind the wheel of a racecar. The BK Motorsports team would like to wish everyone a happy and safe holiday season.
