So what does everyone expect from Bristol?
Will it live up to the hype?
Imo, close but not quite
Pick 3 who you think may win either night?
Imo, Larson, because he is fast Logan because ???, Sheldon because he is fearless.
Will they top 185 mph in the straights?
Imo, no
Top qualifying time was 13.86. 20 years ago. Will the better equipment allow that speed to be broken?
Imo, no, I'll pick a QT of 14.1
Even though I may not know you, I
care what most of you think!

No, they will not go 185 on straights. A 160 mph would scare the crap out of any reasonable driver. These cars have much different tires than they had 20 yrs ago. They had softer 18 in tires, now they have harder 16 in tires. I think they took some banking out of track this year compared to 20 yr ago. Cars now weigh more than 20 yrs ago which may or may not reduce speed. I think TT will be 14.5 range. Anyone who has won a WOO feature this year could win at Bristol.

Late models went 15.0, so unless they slow the track down considerably, the sprints will go a lot faster than 14.5.

Agree. Sprints can go mid-high 14's at K-ville in the right conditions and I believe the banking at Bristol, even with them altering it, will be much greater. (is that correct?) I expect a lot of momentum to be carried through the corners. With LM's running 15, I wouldn't be shocked at a sub-14 time. Not predicting one, just wouldn't shock me.

I'd imagine unless weather dictates it they'll prep the track to be slow and slick off quickly

Appears to be the case. Schatz ran a 14.2 early and the times fell off quickly. Smart move in my opinion.

Hard to say who's going to win. There are several drivers I'd like to see in the winner's circle Saturday night. I tend to root for the underdogs and new drivers. But after Larson's epic 2020 stomping of dirt track racing I'd love to see him win it. Rico. Jac.
I don't know about 185 in the straights, but they're gonna be rockets. These cars will absolutely SMOKE around this track.
And these sprint car drivers are in the same category as skydivers and bullriders - they're crazy! Gotta love it!

According to WoOSprint.com regarding Thursday night's practice sessions: Donny Schatz, the ten-time Series champion, led the way with the single fastest lap of the night at 14.210 seconds in the opening set. That’s an average speed of 133 MPH aboard the Tony Stewart/Curb-Agajanian Racing, Ford Performance, Carquest #15.

I'm not surprised by a sub-14 time. I'm shocked Sammy's old record got blown out

Terminal velocity of a normal winged sprint car is considerably below 185mph. Jac & Steve always said cars were vibrating & shaking at 149mph on the straights at the Syracuse mile. Because arrowdynamicly it's not possible for those cars,to pass through the air much faster.

The stats and numbers I put in my original post were from the story on the WoO website stating a straightaway speed of 185.

Just stating what Steve Kinser said in open wheel magazine. Sprint cars are actually not very aerodynamic.

It only took 20 years for a sprint car to go two tenths quicker, lol.

If you are trying to say we've only come this far in 20 years, I think your statement is very inaccurate. If the goal was to reach top speeds, they all would have been below Sammy's time. I think the goal was to slow them down.

I was wrong on lap times. I guess the 100 more HP they have now made up the difference. I do not think the races were all that good. The announcers tried to make it seem great, but was not friday night.

The venue is nice but the racing last night wasn't good..All out flat out follow leader and not many passes..God help anyone who touched wheels on the straights. They'd still be flipping..Place is too fast and unsafe..I'd rather watch Knoxville..

I went last night and had to drive home due to my son having school early Monday. It was a good experience seeing the cars at that track. It was neat to see how fast the cars could go around that place. I think they said the avg speed of Gravels lap was about 149mph and really they did not scrub off much speed in the corners. May lift slightly my from the sounds of it I'd say maybe a little over 150 is what they get to at the end of the straights.
I probably wouldn't go every year but would recommend everyone to see it at least once. While it is neat to see the speed, the racing part just didn't capture much for me. Had fun and it was a good event but probably something I would not circle my calendar every year for like Kings Royal or Knoxville
