GURNEY CONTINUES TO SHOW PROMISE
By Matt Pendleton
INDIANAPOLIS – In just his third midget race of the 2006 season, Indianapolis resident Chuck Gurney Jr. started from pole position and led 24 laps at Orlando Speedworld before finally getting passed by Ron Gregory to finish second in the 2nd Annual MOPAR-PRI Sprint & Midget Classic Presented by FedEx.
"My goal coming in to this race was to have a top 10 finish in hopes of turning some heads of some potential sponsors at this event. PRI puts on a first-class show and I can't tell you how excited I was to be starting from pole for the event."
Gurney recently announced his plans to compete full-time in the USAC National Midget Series in 2007. With this second place finish coming on the heels of a top 15 over Tony Stewart and Casey Mears in this year's Turkey Night at the Irwindale Speedway in Southern California, his number 51 will be a car to watch over the 33-race season.
"I'm very focused on achieving another one of my goals this February when I begin my first full season of USAC racing. My family has a long history with USAC and I'm proud to continue it."
Gurney will be back on the track February 9-10 at Manzanita Speedway in Phoenix. For more information or tickets, log on to http://www.USACracing.com/.
Chuck Gurney Jr. is a third generation driver with more than 200 career wins, including three national quarter-midget championships. Team Gurney Racing is sponsored by Indy Performance Composites, Red Line Synthetic Oil, Ultra Shield Race Products, Impact Racing Products, Fontana Automotive and The Race Depot.
