Was reading an article about Dean Jacobs circa 2001 and mentioned feeling bad and taking credit about an incident with Kinser incident at 2000 National Open. Something along the lines of him getting lapped and he made a mistake and made contact with Kinser, not sure what the outcome was.
Anyone know what happened?

Dean was and still is a hack. He's a good talker so he got good rides but really never did anything. Kenny was much more respectful and a better driver. Then there's Trey...... A real legend in his own mind

Dean Jacob; sorry don't recall this incident, but Dean, still driving, used to be a pretty good shoe witht he right tea/wrench, back in the late 90's when he headed west every weekend, IMCA(?) was on a tear, Fridgidair years in the late 90's, was fun to watch at Eldroa, I think he had track record from the last race one year, and reset it 1st race of the following year with All Stars. Now in his twilight years having fun racing locally, kudos to the Jacob family for their deication to the sport/life-style.

I was at that race and remember contact between the 2, but not really the specifics. I do vividly remember KInser finishing the race with a bent wheel wobbling around and thinking to myself he drives a bent up racecar harder than most guys race a normal one.

I can't find a recap/article of the race online, but I think this was the race where Kauffman was coming through the field and he and Mark got together and the crowd went crazy.
I found the results here: https://www.thethirdturn.com/wiki/2000_Williams_Grove_National_Open
Looks like Steve led early but finished 13th, which lines up to the story above. Schatz won, but at the time it was a big upset.

Trying to recall... Is this the same race that Keith Kauffman started deep, in the 20s and was flying and I believe was in 3rd close to halfway and got together with Mark kinser and crashed? Can't remember who is more at fault with that, 20 years ago was a long time but I remember the natives being very restless afterwards

How about the fist fight between him and Hillenburg?

Keith started 22nd I believe and was up to 2nd, gaining quickly on Schatz. He found something up along the outside rail when everyone else was running lower on the track. On the re-start he went low in turn 3 to protect and M. Kinser drove into him. Sucked that it ended that way but still one of the most amazing runs I've ever seen. It was very rare, if not unheard of, in those days for anyone to have a shot at winning a WOO race from that far back.

That is one race I really regret not going to.
