Oh my goodness gracious, of all the dramatic things. Will Sammy run it to show the young kids how to get around that place?
Huuuuhhh?

Family has been looking into racing the mod event at Bristol. Me trying to always think of gearing for a track tried to get as much info as possible. Word is 7-9' fill on the bottom and 1-2' fill on top in the corners. A 40' wide racing surface with a max banking of 30 degrees in the corner currently means banking ranges from least to max given those fill dimensions will be 19.1-23.4 degrees. For reference Eldora is considered 24 degrees in the corners. If you hear whining of taking out banking.... sure I get it, but it's still almost as banked as Eldora and about a (.10mi) longer around the bottom as well. It'll still be fast. I just found the figuring out the numbers to be fascinating to anyone who might care.

I'm just wondering why they'd take out the banking. That seems like a lot of dirt to haul in and back out. Would the high-banked track be too fast?

That's the talk anyhow that sprints would be too fast. I'm curious what the banking was in the early 2000s. I told myself if they ever went back I would go to Bristol and the dates are late April.... prime planting season. I'm probably out for at least the sprint car portion.

To fast. WOW, how things have changed. Yea we went down as spectators for the first bristol race. The speed was incredible, everybody came out of there in 1 pc. I laugh at this because of back in the day we raced on the mile at Syracuse. We didn't have the containment seats of today. I had a low back seat with a head rest we padded out because of the speeds down the straightaways. Knee cushions so if we got in trouble your legs didn't get busted up. Syracuse scared the hell out of guys because if you got to high in 2, you were in deep trouble. I can't imagine what today's car would do on a mile, but the 1/2 at bristol can't be any worse that what eldora used to be like. Drivers who won there weren't afraid to put the bumpers on the wall.

When the banking is too steep, you can't see where you are going because the wing blocks the view. You end up going incredibly fast while having no reaction time because you literally cannot see more than 200' in front of you.

Hadn't thought of that but that makes total sense.

In 2000 they had to take a sawzall to the bottom corners of the left wing panel due to the blocked vision at that angle. It's not the same as Eldora, it's much bigger and way faster.

Wow! If this is happening I am curious of poeple's thoughts and would agree this is a great example of the significant growth and increased interest in sprint car and late model racing. At the same time Nascar has lost so much mass appeal. Not bashing Nascar but utilizing this facility is helping to keep the place going and/or to make up for issues facing Nascar. There was a time you had to wait years to get tickets for a Nascar race and now it looks half empty and this was before COVID.
Its fascinating to me. I just hope they keep the sprint car speeds / drivers as safe as possible. As we know sprint cars are really moving at Bristol.

You mean the right side. You can see fine to the left, but the banking restricts your vision to the right. Many pavemenet teams cut parts of the lower right sideboard off, or they moved the sideboard up higher altogether. See Ryan Litt: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XLpjW1ifIVo
As for the banking, they put more clay at the bottom than the top back in 2000 as well. This was more for the stability of the surface, more than any speed concerns. But, I guess if some posters want to talk about WoO drivers being scared of fast racetracks, the speed idea fits their narrative better.
Sammy ran a 13.600, or 141.088 mph average. The pavement boys ran half their field faster than that. They were almost a full second faster at 12.782, or 150.585 mph. Pretty much the same construction in the cars as well. They do not run anything any different than the dirt sprint cars. Well, they are set up for pavement, but the car construction, and rules are similiar. Besides, Winchester is still faster. And Rolling Wheels oficially has the fastest lap turned in World of Outlaw competition.
This will be a good show. I just hope it is not a one lane around the bottom, dusty snooze fest. But the red clay in late model country tends to get that way for sprint car shows.

I believe a Bristol crash effectively ended Randy Kinser's career if I remember right. Hopefully they stay clean & green.

I was at the Outlaw show there. Sprint cars do not belong running at Bristol. Not a matter of fear, it should be a matter of common sense. The human body can not survive the g-force if there's a crash at full speed at Bristol
I just hope everyone that races there stays safe.

Was the previous Outlaw show before the safer barrier? I would think that would help but at those speeds any incident is exponentially dangerous compared to slower tracks. I don't think people realize top speeds could be 20-30 mph faster than Eldora or Knoxville. Maybe more?

Anyone have an idea what car count will be? Will the PA guys come down? Will most the all stars run? I would think a lot of guys would like a crack to be a winner at Bristol or will the speeds keep some guys away? I just picked off a condo for the weekend across the road from the track. I have been waiting for this a long time since I missed the first dirt races at Bristol.
