He will be driving the number 5, which will replace the number 88. Larson just became a true NASCAR championship contender.

He paid his debt and Chevy did themselves proud by taking him back. Lets hope that Hendrick allows a reasonable amount of sprint and midget races.

This is absolutely horrible news. This is the 2nd worst thing to happen to American short track racing in the last 60-70 years, the first being when Eldora Speedway switched to Coke products.

Hope Kyle does better in the #5 than Kasey did.

Don't know if Chevy's eating any, but I will be. I really didn't think this could happen so soon.

We'll see what happens, but I'd imagine dirt races will be very few and far between.

That's too bad. I am going to miss the "What did Larson have for breakfast today?" posts on this board.

You ever watch Lions at the zoo? You can always tell which ones were captured in the wild by the look in their eyes. The wild cat. She remembers running across the plain, the thrill of the hunt. 400 pounds of killing fury, locked in a box. But after a while their eyes start to glaze over, and you can tell their soul has died. The same thing happens to a racecar driver. Nascar is no joke. They'll take a pure bred racecar driver like Larson and make him sign autographs in a Carquest parking lot just for the fun of it. No more wheelies to pull, no more cushions to rip. Just a 3,400 pound pile of shit to drone around in.
Kyle could avoid all of that by just saying no.

Neither one is the end of world. Coke is better than Pesi anyway.

Wonder if this would have changed his decision to shutdown the 2 car if it would have happened a month or two earlier?

I don't know about seventy years but I have been going to races for sixty. Wow, the biggest thing in 60 years? That is not the way I look back at the last sixty years. If you watch this sport long enough drivers and tracks come and go and cars change. For me the skinny tires got fat, roll cages appeared, wings followed a decade later and the formerly home built cars are now tinker toy pieces that one buys on a visa and has delivered by the next day. The crew cut former WWII combatents that used to be most of the drivers are dead and gone replaced by flyweights who are good wth sponsor and media and in some cases kids barely into their teens.
I am surviving the changes, you will to.

I'm sure this has been in the works for months. I also think this contract has a load of incentives but probably isn't anywhere near what he was making before. Guesswork, but he probably doesn't have near the cash flow he once did. In a few years it'll all come back, but he probably needs some time.

He was on the Dale Jr. podcast today that answers a lot of questions about his house and other things with the timing of this. It was a pretty good listen.
