Heard somewhere that back in '98 when Kinser ran the Superman car at Knoxville, there was some sort of copyright/licensing issue with the Haudenschild car/diecast being called 'Krypton' and they had to change it 'Radioactive' or something of that nature as I heard.
Anybody know the full story?

That's how I remember hearing it. I seem to remember some diecasts had already been made and made their way out to the public as well.

Yea and the market got flooded with so many diecast models there pretty much worthless. There was a shop by me that couldn't give stuff away. I had one of kinser's early quaker state nascrap cars, signed. There all in a box stuffed in the attic, I couldn't get what I pd for it.

Same with baseball cards and Harleys. Harley-Davidson had a great thing going until they began mass producing. You were on a list to get a bike or you paid above new price for a used one. That business model should be the easiest business model to make money on in the entire world. You know exactly what your production numbers are. Even economic slowdowns wouldn't make a dent in your production. And, you are selling something that more people want than you have supply for. Then, they decided to mass produce and have showrooms full of bikes. The result-----take the bottom out of the used bike market and end up with a stock worth less in 2020 than it was in 2000.

Yes there was a handful ones that had Kyrptonite before they forced to change. The Kryptonite version is usually seen for sale 3-4 times the value of the Radioactive version. The superman GMP car was actually my first die cast I purchased. GMP and Action both made some nice detailed die casts. I prefer the details of Action however I don't think they made an 18th scale.
Unfortutnately, like others have said there were thousands made of each driver so most can be purchased for less than $100, probably closer to $50. There are a some that are valued higher, like Doug Wolfgang, Sammy's TMC, Steve's superman, etc
R&R Racewear were the most recent company selling the larger 24th and 18th scale die casts however I don't think any have been produced this past year, but hoping this changes in 2021.
