Just saw an IG post saying the winner of the National Open gets $75000 making it both the largest payout in track history and the largest payout for the 2020 season.
What do you PA guys think of that?
Even though I may not know you, I
care what most of you think!

It was already the highest paying in the country at $65k (due to covid of course). I'd like to have seen that extra 10k go through the field. Yep, two highest paying races for 410s this year, WG at 75k and Port at 53k, nice.

It's nice but I also agree that it would be nice to see more money added through the back of the purse. The WG National Open purse is very top heavy, as are most races in PA.

$75k to win, $12k for 2nd, that's like a late model purse for sure.

Well sometimes, like in this case, a sponsor gives some extra money and wants it to go to the winner's share and you can;t do what you'd like and build up the purse throughout

I have never understood why Late Model purses are higher but when NASCAR is looking for drivers they always tap into the Sprint Car ranks. There have probably been some in the past but I can't think of any dirt Late Model drivers that have raced in anything but Dirt Late Models. Tim McReady at the Chili Bowl is likely the most successful. Seems that it works out better for Sprint Drivers in Lates than the other way around. Makes sense because I would think driving a Late Model would feel like slow motion compared to Sprints.

There are more $30-50k to win late model races but there are no $175k or $150k late model shows so I think it evens out.

I know a guy who's dad used to build motors for me for awhile who has raced a sprint car, late model and modified. Said out of the 3 the sprint car was easiest to drive it just turned itself thru the corners and the faster you went the easier it was to drive because it stuck harder. Cant remember if he said they felt faster or not.

Glad to see the Grove is paying 75gs as Pa is the only place that racing has been going on since Mothers day weekend so lets hope they make it another 2 months! As far as pay not even close in a normal year there are more higher paying late model races than sprint car races!

Assuming everything goes back to normal in 2021, the 4 Crown Jewels will pay a combined $500k to win. Just a few years ago that number was less then $300k, so we're making progress.

Just astounded to see some of the discussion on Twitter on this. Apparently paying back through the field is now "socialism".

Check out Parker Price-Miller's tweet on the subject. I agree with him. Al Hamilton once said that if first place pays $1 to win and a hotdog and 2nd place pays $10,000 to win, he wants the damn hotdog. Point being, these big races are all about getting the win. It should pay more to win.....a lot more. I understand the argument that more evenly structured purses bring in more cars and I agree that the guys who are long shots are more likely to not show up but let's face it, you can only start 24 (or 26 with provisionals). I wanna see the best drivers from all over the country slugging it out for a huge check and bragging rights. That's what a race like the National Open is all about.

Like it or not, $75k to win gets a lot more attention than adding $10k to the back of the purse.

I'd wager good money that the same exact field runs for $65K that does to $75K. If you're talking fans, then maybe I could see it, but even then I doubt it. Not sure how WG crowds typically are but my guess is it wouldn't have that large of an affect on tickets sold either.

If this thread and the Twitter debate is any indication, it's gotten the attention it desired.

Only fitting the Posse host the best paying sprint car race in the world. We race come sleet, snow or Covid. We set the bar on every other front.
They don't even know how to spell sprint car

You're right Cubes, it's a shame the PA racers have fallen off the National scene though, nice group of locals though.....
