I'm a "Ford guy", but another one i like is "Fix Or Repair Daily"
Obviously coined by one of our hard working public servants at the "Dept. of Redundancy Dept" !

What is a " Chicanoline" van? Maybe I'm taking your post out of context (because thats a hip thing to do these days) but did you just post a racial slur rev?
|
Its what some people call an Econoline in places like Colorado & New Mexico. I got the name from a Chicano, who i bought it from

Magnetos fail in Chevy clone blocks too. I say clone because these are all aftermarket blocks. It's not like anyone runs to the dealer to purchase a Sprint Car engine. The Chevy vs Ford dispute in Sprint Car engines is overrated. NASCAR is for those who are big on brand loyalty.

Yep, i realize that
Its easier to type than "Ford Style" or "Chevy Style"

I'm sure it will come out what happened in due time. I'd like to know why the guy reporting didn't want to approach team 15 ?

He approached one of the team members and asked if the engine had let go. Crew member responded with, "I don't know".

I'm gonna go ahead and call out the dirtvision reporter on this one. I don't think that needed to be said. Idk that's just me. Donny's pretty good when it comes to interviews . He's well spoken and doesn't do anything that anyone else doesn't do. Everybody gets pissed. But with all that being said I think that reporter is great otherwise. Seems like a good dude.

I didn't see it, but a couple of races ago I believe the same reporter stuck the microphone in Donny's face during an open red while he was trying to talk to his crew. I think Donny's reaction to that was not pleasant, but I don't know exactly what he said. I read about it on the midsouthracing forum.

Ive talked to Donny numerous time throughout the years and he always makes time for his fans. If he was trying to talk to his crew(aka do his job) the mic should have never been stuck in his face jmo. If you put yourself in the way of someone trying to do their job you get what ya get.

I find threads like this hilarious. As fans, we complain about drivers being "corporate", always plugging sponsors, never causing drama, etc. And then, when we get some emotion or the driver does something just outside of that "corporate" act, we complain about that. You can't have it both ways.
Stick a microphone in a drivers' face after a wreck or a mechanical and you might get an f-bomb back your way. Nothing personal, just the heat of the moment kicking in. And that's one thing we all like, is that our heroes are accessible and we get to be up close while the events unfold. I know I get pissed sometimes after getting smoked while playing washers for beers and that is a meaningless deal. These guys are working - racing is their livlihood and that breakdown/wreck just took money out of their pockets. And even more money if it costs them points money at the end of the year.
The guys have been working hard, lots of races and travel and seeing an opportunity to get out a couple of hours early, they took it. Bummer if you wanted Donny's autograph, but he will be back soon enough. Most of these guys give the fans much more than they take so let's give them a break when they need it. And no, I'm not particularly a Donny fan, but the man gets my respect as one of the best ever to strap into one of these cars.

You bitch about you hearing too many interviews with him but the next words out of your mouth are they should have interviewed him... You are right, they should have red flagged that baby and rolled the ford onto the front stretch to give him some airtime for finishing 24th.
This is dumbest post of the month material right here! Well done Strawser!

It was at Terre Haute and it was during an open red. Reporter had talked to other drivers including Carson Macedo prior during open red while the crew was fixing the front end that had broke to see what had happen to cause his spin. Afterword he went to Donny Schatz (who had charged from 23rd to 5 or 6th at that point) and AFTER Donny was done talking to his crew and they went to working on the car is when the reporter went to talk to him and compliment him as well. Donny said something to the effect of, "Well right now I would like to be talking to my crew instead of doing an interview" so it did not go over to well considering other drivers had already talked to the reporter.
I think it could have been handled better on all parties. Donny didn't have to be so snotty considering the crew had already walked away but again in the heat of the moment trying to win I can see his point of view but maybe just say something short and sweet like "still got a ways to go." Dirtvision/WRG I can see their point in trying to give fans a little extra with talking to the drivers and actually helping build the drivers and the product but at the same time, putting a reporter in that position is kind of wrong. Its something that has the intent of helping the drivers build themselves but sometimes if you are trying to win a race or fix equipment helping can become a hinderance. After that little incident though I can see why the reporter may not be too excited to interview Donny. The guy actually does a great job with what he does but when that happened I even said to myself, if I was him I wouldn't want to stick a microphone in front of Donny again.

You could see it on DV. Donny was stalking off to his trailer, interviewer probably could sense Donny was pissed off, so he wisely backed off
No big deal

Agree completely. I heard a story told by an old announcer years ago. It happened at Devils Bowl back in the non wing days of the late 70s or early 80s I think. A driver had run over somebody's wheel and flipped down the front straightaway. The driver was dazed and had the breath knocked out of him as you can imagine. He was sitting on the inside front straightaway wall trying to catch his wind, and the announcer picked that moment to stick the microphone in his face and asked him what happened. The driver said "I just wrecked the f---ing thing, didn't you see it?" The entire crowd busted out laughing, and that's how that particular announcer learned not to do that.

At least the person bitching about this isnt complaining about a certain tracks surface. Some people just like to bitch. I remember a old outlaws broadcast and the reporter was down by the 11 car and Karl was working....he just looked up and said move. haha. Im sure some people nowadays would be triggered and say karl was rude. Hes working get outta the way.

Politely stating a fact of his desire to talk to the crew should be ok in anyones book.
I remember grass roots fender car racing and everytime you had to work quick to get back on the track some fools would gather around to watch up close. We learnt several ways of getting them to move, asking them to touch the hot or sharp thighs. Dropping something close to their foot, straight out cursing them for being in the way and everything in between.
It almost became a game with our crew how we could.one up each other.
Even though I may not know you, I
care what most of you think!

I mean the pit reporter walked over and stuck a microphone in his face while he's trying to talk to his team making adjustments in a red flag. We wanna cry about how Greg Wilson is packed up and leaving every All Star feature he misses next?
