I know this will never happen, but what would happen if you took the top 10 in each WoO series and had them race 1 night in the sprint cars and 1 night in the late models. Do it at Eldora or some other track both series race on. Combined points over the 2 nights is the winner. Or maybe the first two nights set the lineup for night 3 in USMTS modified style cars. Hell, even hobby stocks or stock cars - have a brawl on the race track! Who wins?
Schatz has to be a favorite because of his experience in the LM. And Bloomer probably can't get into a sprint car, although if Steve could, Bloomer should be able to figure it out.
Here are the current Top 10's:
Top 10 WoO SC's - Schatz, Sweet, Schuchart, Macedo, Haudenshild, Pittman, Gravel, PPM, Allen, Madsen
Top 10 WoO LM's - Sheppard, Weiss, Lanigan, Dillard, Junghans, Erb, Bloomquist, Winger, Briggs, Larson
Yes, obviously my day at work is pretty boring today.....

I would suggest an intermediate sized track, Cedar Lake is the first that comes to mind. I-55 and Husets would be fun to see.

Alot of the LM guys are on the bigger side.....
I would assume the sprint car guys would find it easier to race at a slower pace than the LM guys would at a faster pace.
If you have them race a totally different car like DIrt mod or UMP mod, your guess is as good as mine.

That was what I was going to say but you beat me to it. They'd need a shoe horn to get half the Late Model guys into a Sprint Car. I know a couple drivers could do it, Schatz just had two top 10's up at Grand Forks against the WoO Late Models this past weekend and the other TMAC Tim McReady has run the Chili Bowl so I'm sure he would adapt to a winged Sprint quickly.
I think it would be easier for a WoO Sprint driver to get up-to-speed in a Late Model because there wouldn't be so much of an intimidation factor aka the possibility of flipping. They're generally big guys, a lot of them linebacker size, and they'd get banged around pretty good in a flip.

PS, I like the suggestion that they do this at Cedar Lake. I'd dust off the camera gear for that one.

Not a bad idea. Could just make it during the world finals since they are all there anyway & add it to the show. Thursday is essentially qualifying so just add it to that. That way you could do the big blocks to it & do a round robin type deal where you exchange cars or something.
Would have to figure out car cost etc but would add a little spectacle

The next question is who in both divisions is going to let an inexperienced driver in their cars on the eve of a big race? Some have cross division experience but most would take a while to get the feel of the car and might bend it up and make a lot of work for the crew.
This does bring up an interesting question that I can't recall seeing here. How about we list drivers we know of who have run and won in both. For the sake of discussion it doesn't have to be a 410 Sprint or open Late Model. 410, 360 or 305, limited or crate Late Models are fine because this isn't going to be a very long list. Incan think of two off the top of my head that go back a few years. Jim Bruggemn and Rick Auckland come to mind when they used to show up with a WISSOTA 360 and WISSOTA Sprint. This dates back to when Donny Schatz was fist getting started in Sprints and would compete against them in the Sprint Car.

Interesting in theory, in practice likely quite boring. Sprint guys would dominate sprints, late model guys dominate late models. Schatz wins overall as he has ran a LM enough to be competitive. If they ran a 3rd division of Midwest modifieds the LM guys would win as those cars drive similar to a LM. Northeast big block modifieds would be interesting as a 3rd division since they're pretty unique.

Could do something like Tony did with the prelude to the dream race. I believe some of the teams received some sort of compensation for letting Nascar drivers drive the cars.
Could do top 8 in each of the 3 divisions. Quick 20 lap feature in each car & accumulate the points. It would be a fun little spectacle for bragging rights and could probably be easily controlled

I agree adding a deal like this to the first night of the Charlotte world finals would definitely add some excitement to a night of endelss time trials. Would be neat to see, Schatz would probably have to be the favorite as previously stated.

Schatz would smoke em as he is competitive in a late model when he runs and there is actually passing in a late model race! Tmac if he ran the woo may pose as his biggest threat epecially if you would make it a triple crown and throw in the big or small block modifieds!

I like the idea of doing it at the World Finals, especially since you could add the big block cars as the 3rd car in the competition. We all know this will never happen, so the discussion is for fun only.
I think the sprint guys would fare well against the LM's. Easier to go slower than go faster as someone said.
Outside of Schatz and T-Mac, I'm not aware of any guys running both cars. Did T-Mac ever run a sprinter, or just a midget? Maybe some of the LM guys races karts when they first started out?
