With the Gold cup, Trophy cup, Louie Vermeil, cancelled. We are still hoping for the Fall Nationals, Ovals, Placerville Midget race and Turkey Night.. Turkey night is the 3rd longest running auto race in the country. Can you tell me the two races in front of it.
We need more sprint car racing at our home track.

Top shows, I would like to see a Ca speedweek some year, Turkey night would be a plus too. I just watched a race on the computer from Watsonville, the racing was good , more divisions than I care for but the track stayed great all night.

I am not trying to be a jerk or anything, but are you simply a idiot! Midget racing in California has been going on Way before Daytona...the indy 500 probably not, but very close. But this is more related to all your other posts that have me head scratching alot of times
Where's my beer or scotch on the rocks? God-damn it! 40
plus years of dirt track racing in these old veins might
get me condemned by the EPA.

Ok Mr. Smarty Pants. Answer the OP question and show us all you're twice as smart as this dumb ass since I got 1 of the 2 without out your help .
I will admit that now after more thought Daytona isnt that old comparatively with racing over all. Shame on me.

If you count it as an "auto race" are you saying Pikes Peak is #2?
Went to Turkey night at Irwindale in 2002, very good show.

Pikes Peak first race was in 1916. I can't think of any other race that would fall between '16 and 1934(the first Turkey Night) at least thats still being ran today.

I'm no racing historian, but wasn't the first Indy 500 run on the bricks?

A little google time taught me that the 1st race at IMS was Aug 11 1909 on a tar and crushed rock surface.. It was a 5 mile race, 2 laps. The track was bricked in Dec 1909 and the 1st Indy 500 was May 1911.
Maybe more google time could add more details but I didnt take the time.

As a CA sprint car fan it makes me sad to see all the big races cancelled for this year. We thankfully still have some of our tracks in operation and able to have local races with smaller purses. The best we can do with a speedweek would be to have our racetracks get together and plan something out. So far Marysville, Ocean, Placerville, Hanford, Antioch, and Petaluma have been able to open and have 360 races. Only Marysville has been able to have 100 fans in the stands and I thankfully have been able to go to the races since it is my local track. It would be awesome to have a 6 day speedweek schedule coming up this summer and hopefully more tracks are able to open for racing. As much as I want to go as a fan, I think it is important that our racers have somewhere to race in the meantime. I am enjoying watching the races for now online when I get the opportunity. This weekend we are having a big 410 KWS race at Ocean Speedway in Watsonville, CA which should have good car counts and good purse so I hope it is a success! We truly have some of the best racers in the country and they deserve to have races to race at or I would imagine they would leave to race in other areas of the country where tracks are open and fans are allowed to go. I hope this Covid crap ends soon!
Looking forward to the new Golden State King of the
West series schedule!

This Cali fan is on central coast with SMR 15min south and, travel up and down the state for those events. Missed all season 2019 and half of 2018 battling Cancer, that said, my friends and, the determination to see them and, sprint shows is what I used to beat a menacing foe. I'm having a rough, rough time as these shows, friends and familiar faces are missed much. I'll stay strong and continue my recovery....stay positive.....and...relish It all when I see you all...and, become that kid I become at the track that is so much a part of who I am. See y'all soon and, thank you for your prayers and, positive energy....Cowboy George.
From central coast of Cali.
Peace, Out.

You are correct Indy was 1911, Pikes peak was 1916. Turkey night Grand Prix was 1934.
