Who doesn't love topless action? In Iowa there's not too many 410 wingless sprint car action so it'll be good to see 3 days of sprint cars between Knoxville, and Oskaloosa. Hopefully most of the guys head to Osky for Sunday's show.
Would love to see some guys from out west make the trek.
Keep It Real

Your thread title got me thinking....
No, not about that.....
If a winged 410 gets a damaged wing can they finish the race without a top wing?
Or without a front wing?
Even though I may not know you, I
care what most of you think!

I think it depends on the track/sanction.
Pretty sure I have seen WoO or All Star races allow a guy to continue without a FRONT wing, but I can't say I have ever seen it with the top wing missing. In fact I sort of remember a race on a big track somewhere that they wouldn't allow a driver back out with a side panel of the top wing missing....but I cannot recall the details so old age might be setting in.

In my mind, it is more of a question of why you would want to go back out there without a top wing? You are going to be so far off of the pace that you would end up being an issue for the other drivers. Like others, I have seen drivers continue on without the front wing, but it always impacts the handling of the car.
Finally, I was at the Iron Man at I55 several years ago and watched a car have a side board fail on his wing as he excited turn two during qualifications. He did not know that his side board had failed. When he went into turn three, the car didn't set and he had a bad crash into the wall. I wondered if the Outlaws should have thrown the caution for him to save his car. However, to be fair to the Outlaws, there was not much time to make a decision. He was a local driver that did not make it back out for the rest of the night.

Seems like they can replace a rear wing pretty fast during a caution lots of times

Tonight's Brad Doty Classic answered the question about front wings....none needed at least at this size track. At least one car, possibly two went back out after the lap 17 kerfluffel.

I prefer topless as long as the track is right for them. Saturday night/Sunday morning at Knoxville was pretty spectacular seeing them actually getting a hold of the track. Oskaloosa was great last year as the track was in decent shape and they started Bacon last. Brady seems to have a real handle on the set up for Knkoxville and Osky which are very similar tracks. Looking forward to the 9th at Osky for sure!

I think that the days of of seeing numerous west coast wingless drivers trek east are behind us. I know that Jake Swanson ran back there not long ago, but I think that's about it. The CRA and SCRA were strong organizations that raced a lot and had really deep fields of drivers and cars. In my opinion, the current USAC/CRA is much diminished from those days. As for the rest of the west coast, they are mostly winged drivers.
