Our governor, who I don't necessarily like or dislike, (he's just a politician) laid out his plan for reopening the state of Illinois today. In the plan, he made it clear there would be no gatherings (with the exception of school and work) over 50 people, in our state until phase 5, which is when there is a vaccine or breakthrough treatment. So, safe to say little chance of racing in the state of Illinois for 2020. He pretty much confirmed that when asked about sporting events, weddings, festivals, concerts, and conferences. He said unlikely for summer 2020.
I saw Indiana's plan and it looked a little more optimistic. I have not seen Iowa's plan and couldn't find anything. Does anyone know if they have anything laid out yet for gatherings?

With the WoO's announcement of a partial schedule thru mid June the originally scheduled show at Knoxville June 11-12 is still on but with no fans as it stands now. Theyre hopefull that changes by then.

I'm in Minnesota and our governor said the same thing a few weeks ago, no gatherings until a vaccine comes online. We are part of a Midwestern alliance of states along with Illinois so I am not sure how that will affect the upcoming races at Jackson, Minnesota. The biggest outbreak in Minnesota is at a meat packing plant in Worthington just a ways down the interstate from Jackson.

Well on the bright side, maybe larryitis and I can finally get you to come to Indiana for some racing...

I'd assume there'll be massive pressure to have Bears games, perhaps w/o a crowd in September which would necessitate some modification to the 50 person limit. Even w/o fans the teams bring hundreds of players, coaches and other personnel to the games. I doubt a couple of governors will want to withstand the onslaught of public pressure that would come from cancelling the NFL season. That won't help racing necessarily, but then again Illinois is not known for a robust racing schedule.
At some point we need a coherent strategy to protect nursing homes and other high-risk areas while doing our best to limit public transit spread.

Agree with everything you said. And by "at some point" I think "sooner than later" would be a good way to put it.

Not impossible, I can tell you that. All of my plans for summer have pretty much been cancelled.

I can understand the concern with indoor gatherings. I think outdoor gatherings should be considered differently, especially in huge venues where some distance can be maintained.

i agree on on allowing more if event is outside and case in point the dolphins layed out a plan for fans and their stadium holds 65,000 but in their plan they only allow 15000. The funny thing is i dont think the dolphins get many more than that!lol

I agree. Everyone would just have to be open to security policing the social distancing rules. I would agree to it to sit at a race again.
