Evard Humphrey's smooth style was visible both on and off the track,
he was one of the top drivers at the Fairgrounds when we were all kids
riding bicycles and he always had time to stop and visit....He had fans
all through the midwest and was very capable of running with the best,
and they all came to OKC at one time or another. Evard and the ol'
Sonic Blue 12 was a crowd favorite thru some of the best seasons at the
Fairgrounds Speedway as some are lucky enough to remember. Pat, Kathy
and Karey always made me and others feel like family also. I wish them
the best thru this tough time....you learn a lot just watching and
being close to someone, I consider myself lucky to have known Evard, he
will be missed.

Like Shane I remember being around Evard when I was a kid & my dad has a racecar. Got to see him at the driver's reunion a few yrs. ago at the speedway. Sure hate to hear of his passing. My prayers go out to the family!
Shane, I guess Bud is getting quite a field of racers gathering huh?

Shane, I'm not going to be able to attend, so please give my wishes to the family! Thank you.
Even though both of us grew up playing at the speedway, wish we got to see each other more often!

Evard Lee Humphrey, 72, of OKC, died Saturday, Nov. 10, 2007. He was born April 6, 1935 in OKC to Earl and Rose (Wiggins) Humphrey. He lived the last 60 years of his life in the OKC area. He started racing Stock Cars in 1956 at Taft Stadium and won the Super Modified Championship in 1964 and 1966. He owned and operated Drive-in Auto Salvage and Midwest Auto Salvage until 1976. He owned and operated Humphrey Construction Company from 1977 until his death. Evard loved his 1934 Chevrolet Coup and was currently restoring a 1948 Buick. His hobbies included golf, Street Rods, and meeting his friends for coffee. Evard was loved by all. He was loving, compassionate, and a man of few words. He was preceded in death by his parents, Earl and Rose Humphrey and a brother, Tom Humphrey. Evard leaves cherished memories with his loving wife, Pat Humphrey of the home; 2 daughters, Kathy Couch and her husband Dean of Choctaw, Karey Doss and her husband Terry of Broken Arrow; brother, Steve Humphrey and his wife Shirley of Bedford, TX; 5 granddaughters; 5 great grandchildren; several cousins, nieces, nephews, aunts, and many loving friends. In lieu of flowers, family requests memorial donations to the Last Frontier Council, Boy Scouts of America, 3031 NW 64, OKC. Funeral services to celebrate his life will be held 2:00 PM Wed., Nov. 14, 2007, at the South Colonial Chapel. Burial will follow at Pleasant Valley Cemetery, Wheatland, OK.

I am sorry and don't mean to ask this on a tribute-type thread but I have a couple of questions reading his obituary.
I seem now to understand that his daughter married Terry Doss (another great racer by the way). My question is his other daughter married Dean Couch. Didn't Mr. Couch at one time race super mods or champ cars back in the early or mid-80's?

I remember the name also, Dave. I didn't know Terry Doss was related to Evard. Terry drove my dad's car in 1976. Lot of good racing in that family. I have also seen some Doss' racing micro's in Tulsa and was wondering if they are related.

A lot of good memories of the good-ol-days.
Our thoughts and prayers are with Pat and the family.

It's wild to see the pics of the past guys and the cars they used to race. They raced in stuff most of us would never think of getting in!
It's not HOW fast you go, but how you GO fast.
