SEXTON GATLIN RACING IN BARONA’S TURKEY TUSSLE THIS FRIDAY AND SATURDAY

(Lakeside, CA, November 14, 2019) Sexton Gatlin Racing is ready for this Friday and Saturday’s “Turkey Tussle” at the Barona Speedway.  The Lakeside, California based team will offer up a three-car effort for the two-night race.  Racing will start at 6:30 P.M. on Friday the 15th and at 5:00 P.M. on Saturday the 16th.

Last weekend the squad journeyed to Central California to contest the “Cal Cup” at the Lemoore Raceway. On Friday night, Brent Sexton and his youngest son Grant flew the flag for the team on the 1/5 of a mile dirt oval. On Saturday, they were joined by Grant’s brother Dalton who missed the Friday show due to a high school football playoff game.

On the opening night, Grant out-qualified his father when he timed in 5th quick in his group. In the other group, Brent was 12 fastest. Brent started first in his Friday heat race and finished second.  Grant started 2nd in his heat, but problems saw him with a DNF that resulted in a seventh-place finish.  

Grant’s issues in his heat race saw him relegated to the 15-lap B Main event where he started fifth.  He finished second in that race and that easily booked his ticket into the A Main.  

For the 30-lapper, Brent started and finished in the 12th spot.  Grant, who got in more than his share of laps on the night, started 18th in his #3 car and advanced two spots to finish 16th.  

 

 

 

 

On the second night, “Poppa Brent” was the quickest qualifier of the family trio when he timed in second in his qualifying group.  Dalton and Grant were sixth and ninth respectively in their groups.

The rest of Saturday did not go the way the team likes or is usually accustomed to.  Brent finished third in his heat to earn a ticket into the 40-lap A-main.  However, Grant and Dalton did not get out of their respective heats or the B Main and they were done for the night.

Brent started eighth in the main event but had an early DNF and finished 19th.  

This week the team returns to a track, the Barona Speedway, where it has had a tremendous amount of success in 2019.  In four races on the nearby San Diego County dirt oval, Sexton Gatlin Racing has racked up a combined total of one win, two second-place finishes, three third-place results and 10 top 10 finishes.

In addition to the Lightning Sprints, Modifieds, Dwarf Cars and Pure Stocks will also be in action at Barona.

For fans who wish to attend Saturday’s race at the Barona Speedway, gates will open at noon and the first race will take the green flag at 5:00.   The track is located at 1754 Wildcat Road in Lakeside(92040).  The track website is https://baronaspeedway.com/ and the office phone number is (619) 749-8115.
