Tonight will be an interesting challenge for Manzanita Speedway and Phoenix International Raceway for race fans to fill their seats.

Manzy has the Western Dirt Late Models with JJ Yeley, Cory Kruseman and Mike Kirby in the feild. PIR has the USAC Midgets and the Silver Crown Crown cars on their card. BOTH are night races.

Who will have the most fans tonight? PIR's challenge is that NOBODY cares about the new Silver Crown cars and the midget race is only 25 laps albeit on a mile track. They (PIR) have NASCAR truck practice (no qualifying) but no Busch or CUP cars will be on the track for anything today. Thus there will be a limited draw of non open wheel fans there.

I would think most Arizona resisdents would want to see JJ race thus they would probably head to Manzy (as I will be doing). Cant wait to get a report from someone who will be at PIR as to what their attendence will be. Very interesting that these two tracks are going head to head as they are.

PS: Yeley is entered in BOTH races tonight. PIR has the 100 lap Silver Crown race scheduled to start at 8:30pm. Manzy starts their program at 7:30pm. Only way I see JJ running both is for Manzy to have a long-long intermission (and/or run their program slower) in the hopes that the Silver Crown race ends in a timely fashion so JJ can tag the back of the late model "A" main (read promoters option here if JJ doesnt run heat races). Heck, might have enough time tonight at Manzy to have a tailgate party in the parking lot AFTER heat races.....LOL

Well Rob, there was no JJ. I called the track during the day and asked asked of their knowledge of his participation for 'Thursday' nights show since there was the scheduling issue I mentioned above. Reply was simply "We can only say that we have his entry". They stopped short of saying he would be there. Cant blame the tracks position. If there is an entry in hand, thats all they can say really. I hope to see him later today.

Just as well JJ didnt make it. The Late Model feature had the lights on the front-straight go out at the halfway point (cars were under yellow at the time). They stopped the cars while they tried to correct the problem. Then Windy came over the PA sometime later and told the crowd the race was being called official since it was going to be a lengthy process to correct the problem.

Couple of notes: Kruser looked decent in a "taxi cab". Car had a severe push throughout the night. It pushed hard in his semi (they had 2 cause there were like 50 of those suckers). He missed the "A" main by only one transfer spot. Mike Kirby was fast but car blew up in his heat and he was done for the night.
