Last year was 49 from what the Outlaw's result page show. Looks like the Tuscarora 50 had 53cars. Not sure which would be the best to go off of. On one hand if you take the 53 from Port Royal a few weeks ago and add the Outlaw drivers that gets you over 60 but, then again with motors and other issues it may not be the best to go off of.

I assume you can take however many were in field on Friday, add the 13 Outlaws and 5 or 6 outsiders who were at Eldora last week end. 49 to 52 is probably a good range.

I am predicting 50 cars.....it is still the Williams Grove National Open and $65,000 to win. To be honest, that is a perfect amount in my opinion.

Saw on the Grove Press Release Tim Shaffer listed any chance he will be in Tonys car or the KKR #9.

It would be perfect if I won it!
I went to an Allstar race in Upstate NY a couple of years ago, & 50/50 winner got more than race winner, over $7,000...

100% agreed. September has really become a huge month in PA. Port Royal has stepped up things with the 50 and we now have the Dirt Classic which has become a huge deal but none of them are in the same category as the Williams Grove National Open. It has an atmosphere like none other. No other race around here feels like more of an event than the Open. You hear driver's say all the time that they approach it like it's just another race but we all know that's B.S. When it comes to Central PA, this is the one that EVERYBODY wants. Should be another great weekend. Really looking forward to it.

National Open is simply the best race in Central PA. Can't wait to hear the roar of the engines both nights.
Let's go Sprint Car Racing!
Knoxville - Best Track In the USA!
Eldora - 2nd Best Track in the USA!

I gotta disagree. The Natty Open ain't what it used to be. Mostly because of the track itself. Not a single improvement has been made to the track in 20+ years. The owner simply does not care about the people who really pay the bills, the fans. If Port and the Grove ran on the same week night, I would choose Port Royal every single time, no matter what. And PR is further away for me.

Been to the National Open several times and wish I could be there this weekend, but it just wasn't in the cards with work. In my opinion, very little can compare to the event. You have a big purse, most of the greatest drivers on the planet, a historic speedway, and a legendary whose who of winners to this race. Sure you can say many things about improving this event and the track (although not much with the event and would love to hear all of the improvements to the facility.......watch what I ask for!!), but the fact remains, they will get a huge crowd for the weekend (Camping area jammed, Parking the over flow of cars in the old amusement park) and the racing will be second to none with an us verses them vibe from the locals.
Could the facility use an update.....probably in some ways, but it also could be a housing development and that would be tragic!! Very little argument with the surface they produce on Outlaw events. (those are the ones that I can speak of!) Surface can't be too bad as they will draw a nice size field this weekend.
I have been to many tracks from Attica, Lernerville, Wayne County, Eldora, Charlotte Dirt Track, Knoxville, Williams Grove, Lincoln, Sharon, Portsmouth, East Bay, Ascot and several others. Each track has its own great characteristics and its shortcomings and I love attending each and every one of them, but the atmosphere and racing at the National Open is in my top 3.

I am hearing mid 50 cars are here...and unlike Knoxville...all outlaws have to run both nights.
So the only thing that will split the field is the B main and provisionals.
Maybe this is why the Mississippi is too wide to cross in harvest season?
Lincoln 1845 ft/.35 mile T1=118MPH
Eldora 2287 ft/.43mile T3=135MPH
Port 2716 ft/.51 mile T3=TBD
Grove 2792 ft/.53 mile T3=135MPH
Selinsgrove 2847 ft/.54 mile T1=136MPH

I'm not from the ara, so I have no reason to quibble. The closest I've ever been is watching on TV. What improvements does the track need that have been put off for 20 years?

You can choose whatever track you want but it doesn't change the fact that the National Open is the premier race for sprint cars in the Northeast and is one of the crown jewel events in the sport. Knoxville, Kings Royal, National Open in that order. Port Royal has made the Tuscarora 50 a marquee event, no doubt about it. It has a deep history of it's own but it isn't the National Open and as long as there's a Williams Grove Speedway, it never will be.

It's been a good night so far. Track started off very fast but its coming nicely. The C-Main just lined up and it has equal quality to a lot of A-Mains we see around here. Gonna be a lot of good stuff go on the trailer tonight and tomorrow.
