No one talks about it anymore. Drivers dont seem to come. Sad to see the premiere race of 360s every year for years seems dead.

There were 70+ cars last year.  That isn't enough for you?

It's NOT a dead event, yeah it lacks the star power it once had due to the date change, format change and reduction in purse, it's become the "Short Track Regionals", used to be there was an off week before the Charlotte Finals, and you'd see a handful of outlaw drivers line up rides for the event, which was the reason we made the trek down there every year, they had a decent car count last year, but it was alot of regional drivers from the Ascs midsouth area, the 2017 event was so horribly dusty that my wife opted to stay at the hotel for the Saturday night finale, so we chose not to attend last year for the first time in 20 plus years of attending the event, in 2017 the track was so dry and dusty before hot laps were even completed, plus they scaled the cars in the infield and didn't bother to wet the infield down, or the track entrance and exit ramps, don't know if it was from laziness or lack of water due to drought like conditions they endured that year.

if you are from that area, you get to see your area hot shoes racing for some decent moolah, and I'm sure the there are some drivers down there that must love the fact that the event no longer draws alot of heavy hitters, which in turn gives them a better shot at some decent dough, but my wife and I aren't gonna make the drive down there to see that, who knows, maybe that was the track promoters intention in changing up the format/purse, it means more money going to the locals??

I see that for Saturday nights STN pay out this year, third place pays $2,500, heck 3-4 years ago, it paid that much just to start the Saturday A main, according to Speed Sport, Sammy Swindell, who was the odds on favorite the past few Short Track Nationals, will not be competing there this year, instead he will be racing a winged midget somewhere up in New Hampshire, some of the drivers you think would be in Little Rock, are instead going to the Williams Grove National Open, which is paying $65,000 to win this year, my wife and I are gonna choose to skip the STN again this year and instead head to Lake Ozark Speedway in a couple weeks for the Jason Johnson Classic, do I want to see the STN fail, nope, hopefully they can secure sponsorship to bring it back to the "major event" status it once held.

I think they should also check the heads to make it fair for all the drivers:

Cylinder Heads List of Cylinder Heads approved for ASCS competition is as follows:

  1. Chevy - #27-211 B. Ford- #27-223 C. Mopar- #27-222

Spec Heads: Brodix Chevrolet Style Heads part # 27-211 with ASCS stamp. Intake opening no larger than original opening, the only exception being, inlet opening may be ground or polished 3/4 inches or no further into port than the closest edge of the closest letter of the ASCS logo. During this polishing the left side of the letter "A" is sometimes inadvertently brushed with polish wheel. This is permissible as long as letter is still intact. During polishing of inlet port sometimes polish marks may go slightly further than the 3/4 inch. Please note that the intake port is for a Fel-Pro #1206, or equivalent, gasket. Angle milling is allowed as long as the head remains within 1 degree of original manufacturer’s specifications. Excessive porting and/or angle milling of the ASCS logo Cylinder Heads may affect their structural integrity, and is in no way recommended by Brodix.

Spec Heads: Brodix Ford Style Heads part # 27-223 with ASCS. Intake opening must be 2.150 inches tall by 1.300 inches wide. Intake port polishing will be allowed. Absolutely no intake or exhaust port relocation, raising, enlargement or reshaping of any type. Valve angle and placement may not be altered in any way on the ASCS spec head or on any other head. ASCS checking fixtures to check the above specifications and dimensions will be used by sanctioned ASCS tracks.

I wish this race would transition back to a 410 event sanctioned by the WoO! I remember the first couple events watching Sammy and Steve battle it out. I used to always make the 8 hr trip down for this, but as the 360's took over it lost its appeal for me! I hope they tech them to death this year, from what I hear not many true "360's" are there the last few years!

It would have been a lot more interesting if they hadn't announced it.

The fun would have been over after the word got out and many of the cars would have left without being inspected.

If they really wanted to catch people they could have waited until Sat afternoon and then started checking.  I suspect they don't really want to catch anyone because it might become embarassing for the wrong people.  Hence the advanced notice.
