The top 20 finishers in the A main will go directly to NASCAR. They will make up the first 10 rows in the Daytona 500.
Save your money because for $5000 a night rental fee you can be next to make the big time!

That finish was bonkers. If someone came up with a script for a movie about midget racing and it ended with a total of three cars running, you'd say "Meh. Not realistic, but not out of the realm of possibility". If the script then said that two of the three will flip on the final corner, while the third one spins out, but keeps his foot in the throttle to win, you'd say "Get the fuck outta my office! We gotta have a little something based on reality. This finish is too over the top."
Yet here we are.

The heat races were quite interesting also, if a race fan doesn't enjoy that kind of racing he may need to check for a pulse.

Very, very entertaining finish for sure, but when I initially watched it, I kind of had the immediate feeling Larson should have been penalized or DQed for failing to adhere to the red. I get the format of the race eliminated those who caused or were involved in stoppages and I know this will probably be a very unpopular opinion, but still feel that it was completely unacceptable and just dangerous in general. You could see some people, not sure if they were safety crew or what, running towards Pickens and Grant, and Larson hammering it back to the flag stand at that point is not good in that scenario.

yep my thoughts too about not stopping on the red also he did a 360 which they threw a yellow for nearly a dozen times through the night. It was made clear to the drivers that would be the case. Do a spin you cause a yellow go to the back. In the pursuit race cause a yellow you are out.
so who wins pickens flips grant flips at the same time larson spins and drives under red and does doughnuts in turn one while safety crew checks on flipped cars.
being there it was just nuts. never seen anything like it.

I understand where you are coming from, on the flip side. If someone in the front row of a feature flips on the start of the race, should the safety crew run on to the race track with blatent disregard and respect for any circumstance pertaining to the other 22 cars that are going to be following behind?

Tough one. Larson knew nobody was gonna be around him so it was safe but at the same time it was against the rules. So if they put Larson to the back for a green white checkers while he is the only car in the race that would be very anti dramatic to the precious 5 laps.
Even though I may not know you, I
care what most of you think!

Larson has no idea where emergency equipment and/or workers are coming from.
The red was clearly thrown. Larson somehow didn't think there was a red despite clearly having view of Pickens upside down as he spun?
It just sets kind of a bad precedent when stuff like this is allowed.

Larson tweeted that at the time he had no idea there were only 3 cars left in the race. He spun and kept the car going to assure he would not be considered "involed" in the caution/red.... then sent to the tail. Little did he know he was going to be the only running car remaining. Every single racer would attempt to do the same being put in that scenraio.

That's a valid response if he didn't hammer it all the way into the front stretch. Looked like he didn't let off until he passed the flagstand.

LOL. yes he let off in turn one when he came to rest from his victory doughnuts. I don't think he was planning on restarting from the tail.

One highlight video I watched mentioned an elimination format for this race. Could someone please explain how that worked and why they do it.

Yep so you start with 24ish cars like a normal feature. The 25 lap race is broken into 5 lap segments. After every 5 laps the yellow is thrown. If you are last or if you have been passed ( negative positions from the start of the 5 lap segment) you go to the infield and you are done. For example even if you start first and you are third on lap 5 you are done. If you cause a yellow, stop spin flip whatever you are done. Now if a yellow comes out in the middle of a 5 lap segment any car that was down postions had to make them up before the segment ended. That created some bold moves. The field dwindles quickly and thats how we got to just those three for the last few laps.
It is certainly not the normal race that we are used to seeing but this and last years both were very exciting.

You know when you see a personalized license plate and don't understand what it's supposed to mean? Can you explain to us dumbies what his screen name means?
-Thanks, on behalf of the world's dumbies.
