SEXTON’S TAKING TOPS OFF FOR BARONA LIGHTNING SPRINT CAR RACE!
(Lakeside, CA, June 26, 2019) For teenage racers Grant and Dalton Sexton, it will be a whole new experience when they race in the Open Comp Lightning Sprint Car race this Saturday at the Barona Speedway. For the first time in their young careers, they will be taking the wings off the top of their cars. The youthful duo will be joined by father Brent who has raced wingless in the past.
“Racing without a wing is a different deal and requires some different skills,” Brent Sexton said earlier this year when the race was first announced. “I am anxious to see how the boys do without a wing. It will be their first time without one and they will quickly notice the differences. They have both done well with a wing on and it will be great for them to experience something new.”
Saturday’s race will mark the first time the three-car team has been on the track since the June 1st California Lightning Sprint Car race at Ventura. It will be the second time they have been on the Barona oval, which is the closest track to their Lakeside home, this year. The first time was on April 6th and Sexton/Gatlin Racing guest driver Sheldon Creed placed third in the main event. Dalton ran in the top five most of that race, but a late race tangle saw him end up 18th. Grant was running fourth early on when he broke a radius rod, flipped and placed 20th. Brent did not compete that night.
Heading into Saturday, Brent’s fourth-place finish at the June 1st CLS race is the best for the family trio this year. Dalton’s top finish has been a fifth at Bakersfield in April. Grant, the 2018 CLS Rookie of the Year, counts a seventh at Ventura in March as his best outing thus far in 2019.
For fans who wish to attend Saturday’s race at the Barona Speedway, gates will open at noon and the first race will take the green flag at 5:00.
