Why did the All stars agree to race there in the first place?
|
Same question I was asking. Kevin Swindell was all over it and withheld his team from competing. Surely he wasn't the only prominent person who saw before the race ever happened that there were glaring safety issues present. I'm just glad no one lost their life. The thought of a sprint car coming down cage first on that "wall" makes me cringe.

Hate to hear of the accident. Car out of the ballpark is never good. Hope everyone makes a full recovery. Having said that. Track is 1hr 30min from my home and we stopped attending races there several yrs ago because of the number of classes of cars on top of the regularity of the lengthy delays to address track conditions. We attended races there faithfully 2-3 times a month every yr for the entire season for many yrs. It just got to be the norm for us not to arrive back home until after 3am and most of the time that was leaving before the full program was run. Not bashing I love the place. Seen a bunch of great racing there going clear back to the late 70s early 80s. Just wasn't a good fit for us anymore. Love to go back but gotta be some changes made first. Till then we'll just pick and choose I guess.
REMEMBER OUR TROOPS!!!

It came out this morning that one of the fans suffered a broken back so I'd consider that more serious than the initial reports of minor injuries. The Atomic press release includes a statement thanking resonders and fans who helped and mentions their actions possibly helping to prevent paralysis.
My feeble misinformed mind and surgically repaired neck tells me this was more serious than we were originally told.

Yep, pretty damned serious says my L5-S1 after having a laminectomy a few years back due to a pinched root nerve from a back injury.

Did some quick looking and it looks like the gentleman’s name is Bruce Caplinger and his back is broken in 4 different places. Somehow by the grace of God and the work of some excellent emergency responders he isn’t paralyzed. https://m.facebook.com/AtomicSpeedway/photos/pcb.2296606943788151/2296606307121548/?type=3&source=48&__tn__=EH-R
Good to see Bruce is in good spirits and up and moving. We are thinking of you buddy.
