Did they race or not? The webmaster is slower than a zombie on downers.

Boy I bet Paxton and Al Hamilton had to be thinking what they could do in todays racing 19 cars and the fastest three start in the first three spots in their day there were 19 fast cars and you were almost always handicaped .
Three features last night the Grove ,The Outlaws and The All Stars (one pass for the lead) only a Zearfoss spin cost him a wire to eire win.

I agree. Can you imagine how much better the show would have been if DD, Rahmer, Wolfe started mid pack like they use to.May as well say they day of the small team winning is almost over. I wonder why the smaller teams even try anymore. Anymore i just go because love being at the track with friends, It sure not for the racing. SAD

They're old school! We had to walk all over the place last weekend to find the WoO guy to scan our printed tickets. Grove crew was mystified....

I hate to tell you guys but I have been going to Pa. races since the late fifties and there were not as many cars capable of winning back in the day as there are now. The cars were not as even then as now. When the high point guy started eighteenth he had a far superior car than guys starting in front. I remember the day when they had carberator heat a something else heat then the third heat was the faster cars. So yes those other guys started in front but would sort of like running the 410's 360's and 305's all in the same feature so yes those guys starting the back would blow by the guys starting in front to win. There were no standard engines no weight limits no tire rules so the guys who could afford to go fast went fast those who couldn't didn't. Every now and then one of the front guys would hold on and win one but not often. Also the handicapping of those meant very few cars strayed from their regular track. The only way to get extra cars for special events is to make them time trial races and that often results in fast cars starting at the front. The only other option is to for example, run the Weiket Memorial this weekend with only the Port regulars. Do you think it would pay $10,000 to win two nights then? I would bet that Paxton would tell a very similar story.

Longtimefan. I will agree with you that today's sprint car is a store bought car and they are all the same. Teams today decide what gear to put in the quick-change and how hard there going to spin there bullet. Some run 1 engine as long as they can and in doing so they really don't have a chance in hell. Others don't put new tires on every week either. Some don't have the set up knowledge to get them thru 25 laps, there either really fast at the drop of the green and fade away as laps go by, or, the guy with the knowledge to save his tires and let his car come to him blows right by them. All in all the cars of years gone by were so varied that as you stated the good cars just outclassed every other car there. Equipment is what it's all about today too. But, your driver and crew chief have a much greater role than before.
