In spite of being shutout of victory lane at the last 3 USMTS So. Series races in Beaumont, Iowa's Kelly Shryock (Skyrocket Chassis) grew his point lead to 101 points over Oklahoma's Randy Timms (Shaw-by-Taylor Chassis). The strongest cars down there were the Hughes Chassis Oklahoma teammates of Jason Hughes and Tommy Weder, Jr. Hughes had a bad start with a 23rd in the first race after breaking but ended up winning the $3000 finale while Weder captured the middle event worth $2000. Hughes & Weder are 3rd & 4th in points at -146 & -157. Yet another Okie, Greg Skaggs (Skyrocket Chassis) is fifth at -196.
Arkansas's Steve Holzkamper (TRE Chassis) picked up the $1000 win in Beaumont and is sixth in points. Kansan Scott Green (Hughes Chassis) hasn't missed a So. Series race and is 7th. Louisiana's Jamie Burford (TRE Chassis) missed the Enid shows but was back at Beaumont and sits 8th in the standings. Iowa's Zack VanderBeek (Skyrocket) missed the last 5 events but is expected back down south for South Texas. He's ninth while Texas panhandle teenager Rodney "The Rocket" Sanders (Hughes) is tenth.
Lady Okie racer Dena Wilson (Hughes) has not missed a So. Series race and raced her way into a feature or two down in Beuamont as well to take over 11th while Texan Nicholas Littlejohn (Shaw) rounds out the top 12. South Texas Speedway regular Steve Whiteaker, Jr. (Hughes) gets to race at home for a change with the USMTS guys and is currently 13th. Another Shaw driver, Okie Brandon Morton (the #11 in the flag shot above) missed his first So. Series events of the year and fell to 14th.
John Whittington (Bob Pierce Race Cars Chassis) was the best of the locals down in Beaumont. He had 2nd place wrapped up in the $3000-to-win after starting 7th until a late race caution allowed Weder to pass him. John-O still posted a fine third place finish in the event.

And the latest I hear, is that they are having some seriously fantastic late season beach weather down there! Might even be a few strings out.
South Padre Island anyone?
