I'm curious to see what kind of turnout they get for this race. I'm conflicted on whether or not I'm interested in attending.

I'm sure it will be a full field or better. There will probably be some teams that come from other areas to get a chance to run two shows in a day. If you are talking about drivers avoiding the track due to what happened at the last race there I don't think that is going to be much of a factor. If drivers avoid tracks where fatal accidents occur in Sprint Cars they wouldn't have many tracks left to race at in Central PA.

Extremely sad, we're all still down. Everyone in the racing community is. It has been a very rough year.
If the weather is good it will still be packed however. Final showdown usually is anyway. Racers will support. Hodnett would have. There will be a tribute.
They will also have water barrels or something, the Grove did.
Also, sorry to say there is no such thing as bad publicity. BAPs paint might not think so though.
Stories about Greg were playing on every local news channel for a week. If they advertised they might even get a bunch of "new fans".
Weather is major factor though.
They don't even know how to spell sprint car

The opening on the backstretch at Port Royal is probably impossible to hit. It is set back a pretty good distance fromthe leading end and the opening is very small now.

If the worker stands on the right side of the fence, there is no danger. If he stands on the wrong side of the gate, he can meet Darwin.

About 30 years ago, in a freak accident, Bill Rook flipped over the back gate at Husets Speedway in a 360 and landed on 2 track workers. Bill and Denny Graves died in that incident. Since then, they seem to have had a set safety protocol in place and have had no problems. I don't think anyone anywhere opens a gate while cars are at speed.

This will be an interesting day I am sure everyone wants to Honor Greg but two races in one day is alot .I remember the Labor days at Port and Selinsgrove few teams made the 35 mile tow with plenty of time between the two shows.
These days most teams are down to one a weekend now two in one day?

It is very sad indeed. As much fun as I have spouting off about the Posse, it's all in good fun--we all need rivalries in sports. I feel for the entire area and it's fans. I was there at Beaver Dam in June. It hit me hard. I can't imagine how much harder it would have hit had it been one of my local heros I got to watch every single week. (And I'm not trying to downplay the significance of Jason's death with that comment by any means)
Being in the Midwest, I only got to see Greg run a handful of times---mostly the Knoxville Nationals. I never saw him win a race before and was happy to witness his win in the Prelim night this year over Larson----even before I knew that was the last time I'd see him race. I explained to one of our group who had never attended a sprint car race before "the guy in that 27 car is probably not going to win Saturday night, but he's a legend in PA and one of the best drivers to ever strap into a sprint car" I can playfully bash the Posse-----yet know their significance to the sport.
I hope for Greg's sake this does not negatively affect the racing. I also hope this brings about many safety changes-----soon! We don't need to get over-the-top with our changes. Just fix the things that are staring us right in the face.
JMO Hope there is a good turnout for both cars and fans.

Tain't it the truth....vibes at National Open this year were not NEARLY as electric as years past.
I might not have gone myself if i hadn't already bought tickets
