After watching Carl Edwards and Matt Kenseth get into a scuffle, I am reminded we had 2 incidents in the pits at Ventura last Sat. One got physical and the fuzz came, the other cooled off before it got serious. The participants shall remain nameless. When I started going to the races at the old Pines Speedway in Groveland, Mass more years ago then I care to remember, there were 2 or 3 dustups in the pits.Sme folks may tut-tut at this, but being an exhockey player and a fan of the Kngs, a good figth brings the intensity of play to a higher pitch. Hockey without fighting is a sport for wimps. Same with Soccer, another game for wimps. Real men send their kids out for football. Rips kid Cody got hurt playing football recently but climbed into a sprint car the next week and pulled a 2nd at Victorville. But who is more macho than Rip. He once told me he wanted to be a bull rider.

I have been around this sport for over 30 years, and I could not believe the stuff I saw last Sat. I think there was around 4 confrontations, and of course the big brawl at the end, hopefully this week at Ventura is a little more mellow.

I think a political parable is appropriate in this situation. Question - "Why do they fight so hard?" Answer - "Because the stakes are so small"

I watched the fabulous family fued from high atop the turn for pit stands. I have a call in to Jerry Springer to get them on the show. There are too many of them so they'll have to fight it out in the pits to see who gets to go. Someone has to be pregnant from someone on an opposing pit crew.
One of the crew in our pits asked me: "What were they fighting for, last place?"
Everything you know is wrong.

It gives a whole new meaning to "Lets get ready to rumble." It will now be said at the end of a race.

It's the four most exciting words in racing - "SECURITY TO THE PITS!"

Or... maybe we need more Red Bull, Monster and Rock Star. (Wooh, wooh, wooh.)
