Heading to Knoxville tomorrow. From my research it looks like any truck and trailer gross weight over 10,000lbs has to stop at weight stations. Is that correct? I'm my state if it's a camper you can just drive right on by. Can anyone help me here?

I've never stopped and my truck/trailer weigh well over 10,000#. I've also never seen another camper pull in. I would like clarification as well if this is what you read.

Well I gotta say, as a truck driver, I've never seen campers pull in to any weigh station anywere in this country. Take that for what it's worth.

I havent seen a camper stop as they are more interested in trucks. As long as you are not commercial you will be fine.Anytime you have DOT numbers on your unit and weight 26K stopping is mandadatory along with CDL,health card, and log book. Most race haulers are licensed under motorhome which is a gray area.I have a diesel pickup pulling a 32 ft trailer and I have never stopped as I am a farmer hauling my own equiptment not for hire. That also is a gray area and probably not always legal.

Being a former truck driver, I always thought ANY vehicle pulling a trailer at or above the listed weights HAVE to stop. I would think it is at the scale masters discretion if he wants to have someone chase down a motorhome and or trailer for not stopping. I do believe everyone pulling a trailer or driving a vehicle that is suspect, is responsible for knowing this. In the case of some of the haulers, the real problem is not weight, but length. A lot of them cannot make minimum OR maximum length with the fixed axles. Again, up to the scale masters discretion. One other thing I wonder about is if these haulers are transporting methanol that is over and above the legal limit not to be placarded. That is a good fine right there.

I just talked to our truck driver here at work and by the rules are supposed to stop. He also said if it was him he wouldn't bother because they typically dont care about camper/RVs.

I checked the weigh station map of iowa. It looks like my route is clear of weigh stations anyways. I hit I-80 on the NW corner of the Quad Cities and there is nothing until after Des Moines.
