In case you missed it, Dale Jr. has come up with a new term on how a driver gains a position on another driver by sliding up in front of them on the pavement. This new term has gone viral in the Nascar world.
Maybe if dirt track had come up with this move (and term) earlier, we would be experiencing higher popularity.

It is funny that this overrated hack has come up with this term. I wonder if it will catch on?

Junior was just following in Daddy's footsteps without half the desire and priority Dad had, not his fault, just wasn't his world like it was to Sr. I don't get the haters, never did, I have always assumed and I am pretty confident in saying this, Jealousy played a major role. If you hated Dad then you really hated Jr. it seems. Awful silly in my opinion, he never acted like he was big time or it was that important, he just went to work every Sunday.....

Guess I missed where Dale Jr said he came up with the term.

Actually other NASCAR announcers have been using that term occasionally, usually when Larson does it since he's a dirt tracker. It has little to do with Junior. Yes it will catch on and really already has. I'd say if it's that big of a deal to you then don't watch NASCAR.

I got up close and personal with JR and thought he was a decent guy. I had to back up to get the shot the darned room was so crowded.

People always ask why people hate Nascar and this is a big reason. They have one really good race (out of how many truly terrible ones), act like Earnhardt Jr came up with this term, instead of going to the roots of the term they act like it’s only done in NASCAR races.
Its this fake hype bought into by an ever decreasing fan base that just puts people off of the product.

And yet we can ask the question of where would sprint car racing and the WoO be without NASCAR money?

I should clarify on my intent. I have no ill will towards Jr. I actually understood why he said it----especially with Larson going for the pass. I was simply poking fun at the Nascar and mainstream media. Many of the Nascar articles are explaining what a slide job is, etc. I was more poking fun at uneducated fans---not Jr.

I actually heard "slidejob" used in an after crash interview by Adam Petty. He was pissed off at Dave Blaney after they got together and wrecked. The term is definetly not new in the NASCAR world.

I get what you are saying about Jr. but that still does not stop my disdain of him, although it is not his fault. I just got tired of hearing about him week after week with nothing to show for it. That's all, rather simple. He could be the greatest guy in the world, the media blew that for him. Actually, I never really disliked him, I disliked his fans with a passion, and it was a trickle down effect, so when I hear something Jr. may have said, I am like "Who really cares what he has to say"

People really over think the most trivial of things on this board. I was aware that he raced in NASCAR and who is father was. When he came to my home track in the mid 2,000s I got invited to a press conference to take some photos. Over the years Jr. expressed a fondness for dirt racing and once referred to Dave Blaney as one of the most underrated Cup drivers. He knows that slide jobs have been a thing for decades, controversy is all media hype.
End of story, there's nothing more to see here. If I beat my head on a tree and it hurts I stop and it feels better. If I don't like NASCAR I don't watch and I feel better. Amazing how well that works.

I'm a diehard dirt fan and always will be, but I'm fairly certain JR knows plenty about dirt racing and was more than likely knowingly quoting a dirt racing term. If anything we should be thanking him for the plug. Take it easy on the boy . . . geez.

I may be mistaken but I think he might have an ownership share in a dirt track. Seems like I read that somewhere years back.

We should probably be happy that a dirt term is being used. Don't forget where some of the racers, and many crew members come from. IMO dirt racing is referenced more now in NASCAR than in years past.
I too do not understand the hate towards certain drivers, like JR, or Danica. We want to see personality, and not cookie cutter drivers, yet once they do, the public explodes.
Be happy that we still have racecars and engines that are different and ran off fuel.

I remember those days back in the 80's when I first got cable and started paying closer attention to NASCAR. They rarely mentioned dirt and when they did it was in a condescending tone like it was too amature for them to bother with.

I can understand the dislike towards Danica. She just came off to me as being very entitled and disrespectful. Jr. on the other hand? I think like someone else said it's the fans which even though I'm one of them, I will agree that some of them almost made me ashamed to be a Jr. fan. I know people like to rag on him because he never had the success his dad did. But I think he said in an interview one time that all he ever wanted was to be able to race cars for a living. And if you looked at kids of great race car drivers, there was very few of them that had any success at all (think Kyle Petty). Personally I'd be tickled pink if I could say I had a NASCAR career as good as he did. But besides what he has or hasn't accomplished on the track, he has done a lot for the sport, as far as giving back, Truex and Keselowski come to mind as drivers he handpicked, didn't come from money and became champions in the sport. I also don't believe he really wanted to become the face of NASCAR. But due to circumstances out of his control he did. He never complained about it and I think I could count on one hand I heard him say a bad word about anyone.
