I know it wont happen  but wouldnt it be fun to watch a front row type challenge where some of the fastest guys take the challenge of going to the tail for more money to make them have to actually give the fans their moneys worth. When things are straight up from time trials most of the feature passing will be lapping.Schatz is a sure bet over 90% of the time. The earned their spot and there is less risk except in Lyttons misfortune. Double file restarts make it more exciting but also cause some crashes where single file cone restarts give the leader a big advantage as there isnt usually enough momemtom for a possible slider  into one and two just a thought!

I'm glad Knoxville follows their own format for the Nationals.   At least the heat races are exciting that way.

Was this race any more exciting than the write-up makes it sound? Schatz finished a quarter lap ahead of Madsen? Did they interview Jeffries after he and Schatz "made contact"?

Knoxville format > WoO format

Yes they interviewed Jeffery. He was very humble with the interview. More than he should have been IMO but it's probably because Donny is a Vortex customer. That move on a double file restart in the first corner from a champion who could have won that race from any position is unacceptable. He didn't need to make that move at that point in the race to win it. Double file restarts are costly.

You're being kind. I'm not afraid to say it! Schatz made a dumb ass move that took Lynton out in a bad way. If he had wanted the top in turn one he should have chosen the top side for the restart. Instead he blindly went there not knowing if anyone was there. On a double file restart that's taking a poorly calculated risk. And not a word from "humble Donny" afterwards.

Was a snoozer after the 2nd and 3rd fastest cars of the night crashed out.... Not sure Jeffrey could have hung with Schatz all race but he was bad fast, and Brown as seems typical, just too juiced early and took himself out.

After those two were out the only excitement was watching Ian, Kerry, and Gravel race through field for the podium.  But they all started too far back.

This WoO race at Knoxville used to be a real "event" when it was Twin Features with the second feature lineup inverted from the finish of the 1st feature.

Sadly the WoO killed it along with any other format that might make their drivers race through a field of cars.

Looked to me like maybe he thought he had Lynton cleared and moved up.   Plus, love him or hate him Schatz very rarely takes anyone out.

Jeffrey was all class (as usual).  No doubt he was biting his tongue and probably mad as hell inside.  But he obviously recognized the significance of the moment when the mic was put in his face considering recent events.  He acknowledged as we all should that it was a racing deal.  No malous or intent (his words).  I'm sure Donny thought he had him clear.  Lynton said it and I agree... Donny is not only the best driver but probably the cleanest driver I've ever seen.

I think everyone who watched the crash had their hearts sink for 5 seconds before Jeffrey started moving in the car.  Some won't like it being said, but everyone who's seen both are thinking the same thing this morning.  What happened on the frontstretch at Knoxville is exactly what happened on the backstretch of Beaver Dam.  And thank god today we are not waking up to another tragedy.

Hopefully this doesn't turn into a Donny bashing thread. It's racing. Driver's mis-calculate.  Cars make contact.  Bad things happen.  It's no one's fault and at the same time it's everyone's fault just by climbing in those things.

I think Lynton made a couple thousand fans last night.

Schatz is one of the cleaner if not cleanist driver on the tour but that was pretty bad. That was feeding a RR to someone and not even close to a nose clip.

Similar accidents but at no point was I worried about Layton walking away. There is proper wall and fencing. Along with no opening that might be too wide or a wall that is at a suspect angle in context to the race surface.

1.  The racing was very good-----if you just looked back through the field.  Of course Donny was gonna pull away starting front row.  Gravel was fun to watch.

2.  There is no point to doing inverts for heats.  Only works on shows like the Nationals where there is an end game for the entire event and points are required.  I always thought inverts on heats for nightly shows nomade no sense.  Lastht's event does not carry over to tonight.  So, there is no point to inverted heats unless we all want to argue some more about sandbagging.

What about the format and inverts regarding the All Stars?  Much better heat races and Features than the WoO without a doubt. And the top drivers still manage to race to the front of the Features at most events.

Sometimes racing has luck on your side.. it just surprises me on the luck of the draw for Donny getting the dash draw both nights on the front row.  As it is we know he is a master at Knoxville, he doesn’t need luck there. But great to see drivers finish on the podium who don’t start up front. That’s what makes knoxville unique and badass!!

Lynton gained more fans than if he had won the race.It was a nasty crash and glad he was able to walk away.Probably the classiest interview of the year and even though it was a racing deal most drivers at that point might not have been so diplomatic. Lynton has been a good qualifier and wouldnt the crowd go wild if someone like Lynton could make the A amain at Nationals and pull off a victory same as Bobby Allen. Schatz is a very clean driver and doesnt make many mistakes and Lynton put himself in harms way going for the lead up top.I was told he sold all his t-shirts .Vortec wings made by Lynton are on many top team cars .
