I KNOW THE WEATHER HAS BEEN TERRIBLE but it is only June and car counts seem to be going down Lincoln 18 Williansgrove 18 Port 25 with several All Stars  someone asked why dont Lincoln use a Sunday raindate when nobody else is racing (W hy would they when it seems most teams only want to run part time)?

Even Knoxville which looked like it was going strong is only getting around 24 cars and only has two winners so far.

Where is Lasoski did he officially retire?

Biggest surprize if the weekend Marks winning Outlaws and good turnout at Selinsgrove.

Unfortunately, it is what it is and most likely will not increase at any of those tracks mentioned. PA Speedweek will start off with good counts the first weekend and may peak around Port Royal Wednesday or Saturday.  I don’t think it’s “where are all the cars”, I think we’ve seen them all. I don’t know of an answer but 20 car fields will be the norm. I can’t think of anyone that hasn’t been out yet. Wilt? Dietz?

Port lost a car when Wagner got the Zemco ride. Ryan Taylor appears to be running 360, same with Mark Smith full time again.

Bummer... I wonder why  (or if?) Ohio is still doing OK?

Ohio had decent counts. Sharon had 31 (boosted by Kemenah, Blaney, Conley, PPM, Bowser, Garvin and Esh off the all star tour), Fremont had 21, Wayne County had 23, Atomic had 19, Attica had 21

Selinsgrove had the Kramer Cup(increased purse) Saturday so that added a couple extra cars. 25 360's is OK, not great for a special show. Too bad the URC decided to put the track in the middle of their feud with Franek or they would have easily had over 30. Surprised Lincoln only had 18 410's(weather forecast?). I think they had 28 or 29 410's last week even with some guys at Port for the Weikert. I don't know why Lincoln wouldn't have rescheduled the Sterner Memorial this past Saturday with the all-stars in western PA and having an off-day on Saturday. Of course it would have been for not with the rainout. Car counts are pretty similar to last year I think. A lot of teams run a part time or a mostly 1 track schedule nowadays due to finances and cost. There's gonna be 18-20 car nights some weeks. That's still enough for a good show IMO.

The Ohio circuit is for the most part, comprised of smaller tracks that don't require a team to have killer motors to be competitive. I've been saying it for years and if I'm ever wrong, I'll be the first to admit it but Pennsylvania has A) way too many big motor killing half miles and B) entirely too many races for teams and fans to choose from. Central PA is still very much stuck in the 1980's and I don't see it changing anytime soon. As much as I love going to the Icebreaker every year at Lincoln, when you apply a little common sense to the situation, it really doesn't make any sense for us to start racing at the end of winter. Providing the weather cooperates, we already have nearly 2 months of racing in (most of which occurs in cold temperatures and less than ideal conditions) by the time we start having decent weather on a regular basis. Too much of a good thing is never a good thing and in my opinion, that's what we have here.

Agree 100% on both points. I'd love to see a couple of the PA 1/2 miles finally see the light and do like Jackson. Not sure if anyone is paying attention but Hagertsown seems to be struggling more than the PA tracks; low car counts for weekly LM shows, only 1 sprint race(SW) and fewer big LM races - no Octoberfest or Hub City races any more. As much discussion as there is about costs and the quality of racing, not many people bring up the easiest and quickest solutions for both - smaller tracks.

A big key in the upper midwest will be what the result is with the Husets/Badlands auction/sale. In the right hands and a working relationship with Knoxville and Jackson Motorplex, I think a lot can and will be accomplished. Both Knoxville and Jackson are more than willing to be aggressive when it comes to growing the sport in the midwest. Both tracks have shown that. A third track and a third night would surely make that road a little easier.

It's the quickest and easiest solution and in the end, it will make for more good racing than we see now. Will it ever happen? I don't think it will but we can always hope. Seems like everyone is more than pleased with what they did at Jackson. I understand the history and tradition but there's plenty of videos of races at Port, Williams Grove and Selinsgrove for us to watch to remember the good old days. The good old days are gone and I think it's time to adapt before we lose it for good.

For the most part Ohio is doing ok. As Fixxer said a lot of our weekly tracks are smaller that do not hurt engines as much as bigger half miles. To be honest I do not know how we stack up as far as weekly programs/point funds versus PA or Knoxville or Cal. No one racing weekly is going to make a fortune, but when you are racing for a decent purse each week, on a well prep track, have a decent point fund, then you add in some All Star & Outlaw shows with some good purses, it makes costs a little more managable. Not much, but a little. Knowing you can race about 5-10 times more without having to do an engine rebuild helps.

As far as Williams Grove -- people were not happy about track conditions the previous week. Add to that the All Stars at Lernerville taking a few cars (Brock Zearfoss for sure is a WG car, and Ryan Smith, Hobaugh, Shetler, have all raced around here this season as well). I think Williams Grove is just not the track everyone wants to race at anymore, and that is going to be something everyone has to get used to. 22-24 cars is a good night at WG. For Lincoln, they had no chance this Saturday and anyone with a brain and access to the internet knew it so the majority of drivers not running for points probably tried to stay home or race elsewhere. Plus with Bedford scheduled to run Sunday I think that keeps some of the West PA guys from towing out as well. Lincoln had 29 cars a few weeks back before rain came, and if they get good weather someday I'm sure they will have a good bunch of cars. Until then people are going to be chasing the best weather (I'm a die hard Lincoln fan and I saw the forecast and went to Port instead this week thankfully).

Right or wrong....still in the 80's ....motor killers.........take away the big 1/2's and you take away what makes Central Pennsylvania Central Pennsylvania

Not gonna deny you're likely to see a better race at Lincoln, but you won't see the speed of Port, Williams Grove, or Selinsgrove.

I really don't think changing the tracks will have any real net effect on car counts or spectators. It is what it is. if that theory was good, you'd have a lot more cars at Lincoln.

It's a function of the demographics. The car guys, the hot rodders are the race fans and there just aren't that many anymore.

The closest a kid can get to a hot rod these days is a trick Honda that has very little in common with your classic dirt track race car.

Wilt and Campbell were both at Lincoln before rain came, Hogue was there in the team car to Monteith as well.

Chase Dietz plans to be at Lincoln this week I believe in a 410. Tyler Ross got tore up at WG Friday night, along with Adrian Shaeffer. Others were elsewhere but do you really expect people to tow their car to Lincoln, unload it and then watch the rain? I would bet a good 5-6 hedged their bet and stayed home. Even Port had a chance for rain throughout the day, but without the All Stars they still would have had 22-23 cars which is par for the course at Port over the past few seasons. I was worried early in the season, but the past few months have proved that there are plenty of cars out there. The weather is causing the illusion of low counts at Lincoln but wait until there is a nice Saturday and they will all be back and then some.

Also, Wolfe was a Port car last season if you are assigning him to a track. He really just ran where the money was, and if nobody was paying anything extra he was at Port.

Ya know what I like best about this thread?  It's an entire page long and it doesn't contain a single bash, a single derrogatory comment, nor anything like that.  Great job to all the posters so far.  The comments have all been positive, spot on, and based on their own opinion.  Posters have stated their preference and that's great.

I would just like to add that in my opinion, the  biggest issue is the number of 410 races in the area.  Shortening track lengths would be an incredible undertaking for any of the big 3 and probably not worth the investment not believing that would increase car counts. Late Models don't have as many races but they are also spread thin across Port, Selinsgrove, and Hagerstown, with Port Royal appearing to be making out the best in that division.

I know that BAPS 410 events are usually big crowds because once a month or less is still a novelty.  But yea, way too many races.  I know Port Royal takes off one weekend per month and Selinsgrove about the same.  I would really like to see Port Royal try to get a 2-day Lucas Oil Late Model event the weekend of the $100,000 to win Sprint Car World Series if Mansfield schedules it again next year in April and Port Royal take 410s off that weekend.

PA Speedweek has too many races, of course, anyone can see that, however, all 10 are usually big crowds and usually decent car counts.  My idea for Speedweek would be this;

First Friday no 410 racing.

First Saturday and the last Saturday rotate Lincoln and Port Royal

First Sunday and the last Sunday rotate Selinsgrove and Path Valley

Monday - OFF, Tuesday Grandview, Wednesday Hagerstown, Thursday rotate BAPS, Trail Ways,  and maybe a third track

Friday - Williams Grove Mitch Smith Memorial

I think Kata was at Port, not sure if he's still running 360 shows. Only seen him in 410's this year.
