The provisionals are from the event in 2017. As a promotor it was smart, I feel like it helped draw cars for an event that conflicted with Knoxville Nationals.

Ok, that makes a bit more sense. Thanks for clarifying!

The more I look at the format the more I like it.

My first thoughts: I like how the Friday prelim groups are being determined based off qualifying times and not pre-determined like the Chili Bowl and Knox Nat'ls. (Does anyone know how they determine which drivers qualify on which nights for these events?) Regardless, now we know the field for SCWC is split into two prelim groups without bias.

With 2 prelim groups, 4 heats each, top 4 starting spots inverted... you will only have to qualify in the top 32 to make the invert. This should be pretty fair regardless of qualifying pill draw. Even if you have a bad qualifying run friday, you have plenty of laps in your heat and feature to earn a decent starting spot in saturday's heat.

Didn't Rico get one of these provisionals? Who are the others?

No. The three provisional drivers (if needed) are Caleb Armstrong, Adam Kekich, and Jimmy Seger.

As for the format, I like the format but i don't think they'll be able to hot lap/quali 80+ that fast from my 3-4 visits to the track so Friday may run a bit long.
