it is no better up in the northern plains. still snowing, not calling for temps to get above 40 for at least a week, and possibly getting cooler after that. on top of that, more rain/snow is in the forcast as well. hopefully by the middle of june we can race. i'm kidding, i hope

You do realize that the Sprint Invaders raced last weekend in Iowa? Only one cancellation is not that bad...

I think he means in General in the midwest. Eagle had a race scheduled last weekend, cancelled on wednesday. This weekends I80 races for friday and saturday cancelled like sunday last weekend, burlington this weekend cancelled. I agree that people like to be the first ones racing for the year, but March and Early April in the midwest is a little bit excessive.
I for one, feel that if you are hosting a race, you should stick to it, even though "Its cold so the fan count might be down." hell the fan count will be down anyway, thats part of having a March race when it is 40 degrees and windy, you go into it with that risk, its give and take. We have raced before in SD back in 2005, and the first race of the year we got an inch of snow during a red flag. Cars went out and ran it in and the show was completed. Husets the next night was snowed out due to 5 inches. Just they way I see it. Having owned my own car and family owned cars in the past, I probably wouldnt race if it got below 40 to help prevent engine damage, but with the heaters now, that is preventable.

Not to mention Jacksonville, IL or Moberly, MO and many other taxi cab races. All races some of us would have tried to attened.
Went to 34 for Sprint Invaders and it was chilly but the program moved fast and start time was moved up. All in all very happy that I went to the race. I completely understand them not running IRA/MOWA at 34 tomorrow. Low of 15 tonight high of 38. I would guess there would be risk of the track actually being frozen.

I completely understand that too. No point in trying to work with a track that is frozen. I guess I am just ready for racing season. I was kind of sour with Eagle last weekend after they cancelled and it ended up being about 50 at race start time. With 3 classes starting at 4:30, there is no reason they couldn't be done before the sun went down. Then again, I do not know all the details that went into the decision, and it was not my call to make, cant really argue with their reasoning. Was just eacited to see a big group of sprint cars come down, I knew of a few from SD that were planning on making the trip. Its always nice to get together with your friends at the racetrack for the first time of the year!
I've sat my happy butt in 35 degree weather at 11PM to see a race before, the cold really doesn't bother me, layer up!

I would have been at 34 if they raced this weekend but Im also crazy I'll layer up and go but Im sure many will not. The higher paying show is also alot more risk. The Sprint Invaders don't pay too much whcih makes it easier for a track to take if crowd or car count is light.

We're getting another 3-5" on Sunday afternoon/evening and are looking at a low of 9 tonight in Forest Lake, MN, a half hour north of St. Paul. We're not going to see 60 for two more weeks. Way below average and hibernating is getting very old.

The high of about 50 at Eagle last week was at midnight. At 4:30 it was in the upper 30's with a 20+ mph wind and gusts of 30 to 40 straight out of the north. Not a nice day . . .

Those 100 die hard fans are going to layer up and be there regardless. The other 2,900 that consists of families with kids are going to stay home and watch Netflix. If they cancel the 100 is going to bitch about it on here the next day. We won't even get into what happens to clay when there's frost still in the ground. They'll be.picking up parts in the next county from the rough track. This discussion happens every spring.

Spring time in PA has also been brutal so far. Snow flurries on my drive to work the past 2 mornings.

In the distant past Husets Speedway used to have their opener on Sunday, Mother's Day, in May. Then they started moving the starting date up trying to get a race or two in at the end of April. All that they seemed to accomplish most years was to add 2 rain-outs to the season right off the bat.
For whatever reason, Hartford, about 20 miles up the road seemed to be charmed and was able to get early season Saturday night shows in on the same weekend that Husets would rain out. One year I think Hartford had their 3rd or 4th night of racing the night before Husets got in their 1st.
