Interesting forum I've followed for a long time.

Trying to decide between Ohio or Indiana speedweek. Being from Kansas I've never been to any of the precipitating tracks. I enjoy both winged and wingless cars. Indiana speedweek has a couple of open dates I would fill with Waynesfield and Kokomo wingless 410 shows. I'm concerned about car counts at the Indiana dates. Will USAC have decent car counts at the Indiana venues? 

What am I overlooking? Will be the only time I make this trip so want to make the most of it. Is there anything I "must do".

I don't think you could go wrong wit either week. Car counts will be good at both. Some good tracks at both with maybe a slight nod going to the ASCOC week with eldora and atomic and waynesfield can be a spectacular show. Indiana has the IMS  museum on a off day if you go that route.  Have fun. 

Both are good, just comes down to preference: wing or non wing! Wings for me any day, but tats up to you!

I really love Ohio Speedweek, the fields are some of the most diverse you’ll see all year. You have the Ohio locals who run really well at most of those places, of course the All Star regulars, a ton of 410 part timers who run every type of car (Bayston, Macedo in years past), and usually 1 or more Posse guys (in recent years Dietrich). 

The tracks themselves are also a lot of fun. Attica, Atomic and Eldora are 3 of the very best sprint car tracks.

I just looked at the schedules for both and I'd give a big nod to the ASCOC week. The usac week is essentially 2 long weekends plus I'm not a huge fan of rutnamville.   But do know that the ASCOC speedweek finale has been moved to atomic giving them 2 shows that week, which is ok as it's one of the best tracks around. 

The first 4 nights of Ohio speedweek will be awesome. Can't speak for wingless racing in Indiana as thats on my to-do list as well. But heres my 2 cents on Ohio speedweek:

Friday - Attica has the most conistant track prep there is. Always great racing, plenty of parking/camping area, nice facilities, fair prices. Car counts are usually 50+ to kick off speedweek every year. My ONLY complaint about attica is the bleachers seem farther away than most tracks. Even though you aren't right on top of the action you can still see the whole track from any seat in the house.

Saturday - Eldora is must see if youve never been. I'd suggest walking the pits (carefully) before and during motor heat, then watching hot laps from different spots in the infield. Then once qualifying starts make your way to the turn 4 grandstands. Hearing the cars echo while going down the backstretch is so cool.

Sunday - 2018 will be my first trip to Waynesfield but I've heard nothing but good things about the place.

Monday - Wayne County... I'll be honest the crowd is sometimes rough, parking usually a mess, facilities not the greatest either, but a really cool race track. And it always seems like Larson, Bell, and Kahne make it out for this race if that interests you at all...

Up until recnetly, I would have said ISW. I've been to both Speedweeks. Honestly, my vote now goes to the All Star Speedweek. Great car counts, a few outsider like PA's Danny Dietrich, diverse tracks from the small bullrings to the bigger, faster tracks. Great format with the All Stars.  Winged 410 sprints at Waynesfield are incredible shows. Atomic is awesome as well, and they have 2 dates now that Millstream lost theirs.

My money is on All Star Speedweek!

Honestly, if you're wanting to do non-wing, then Indiana Midget Week would be the better option if it would fit your schedule. Every night of Midget Week features both midgets and non-wing sprint cars with most of the drivers hopping between the two cars every night. It's fantastic.

Even the drivers look forward to The Field. Some say it's the most under utilized track in Ohio & it's only been around some 16 years.

I myself would like to see a All Star, USAC double header there.

Tough choice, but you win either way...

I went to the Bloomington and Lawranceburg Indiana Midget Week races last year. If I remember right, it was around 20 sprints each night. Bloomington's surface was horrible - huggy pole all night. On the flip side, Lawrenceburg's midget feature may have been the best race I've ever seen in over 40 years of attending races.

I can only speak about Ohio Sprint Speedweek as I have never been to Indiana Speedweek. I have heard great things about Indiana speedweek and hope to attend a few races in the future. I have never been disappointed in any of the Ohio Speedweek shows and that even includes previous All Star management. I have been to every track on the schedule except for Waynesfield which hopefully ends this year. Car counts are always great, 40+ and over 50 in some cases with some good outsiders.

Another week you may want to look into is the week leading into Kings Royal. Not only do you have 3 days of racing at Eldora but you can take in the Brad Doty Classic at Attica that Tuesday, and the Lou Blaney Memorial at Sharon the Saturday before.

All are great shows and you can't go wrong no matter what you choose

He's right, its a great idea. I did it  few years ago, enough sprint cars to keep it interesting

If I leave early enough, gonna try to break out of my anti-pavement prejudice & check out the Little 500.... 33 sprint cars, 500 laps on a 1/4 mile track???  My friend on Indiana Open Wheel says its chaos...
