Has anyone seen the 2018 weekly purse for Chico? I’m thinking the promoter will stick it to the teams now that it’s 360 and not 410. The 410 purse was top heavy, but dropped like a rock. Silver Dollar is like a boat full of holes and the promoter is holding the drill. Dennis put the drill down and start plugging the holes, it’s time to pay up and put Chico back on the map and butts in the stands.

Some of the Outlaw teams were heard saying "it's time to find a new home for the Gold Cup" after last years race. I remember when Chico set the standard for sprint car racing on the west coast.

Im afraid that boat has sailed and gone. Chico has been a shell of itself for many years. Its hard for us to watch the death of a once great racing facility ICON. Promoters anymore dont want to be creative, work or spend money, they just want to cash in. It seems a epidemic at Silver Dollar the past 10 or 12 years. As a result your seeing the result, the death of Chico and Silver Dollar Speedway. Damn shame really. Lots of history, legend and lore created by many over the past 25 plus years. Think of the drivers and teams that cut there teeth at Chico and went on to dirt greatness. Too many to count.
Funny how the promoter at Stockton "gets it" and really works hard to do all for everyone involved. He's not perfect but never stops trying and working to have a great complete faciltiy. I dont know him, not a schill for him and honestly not a big fan of the actual race track ( seems heavy, patchy and too fast) but he tries. He even advertises, now theres a fresh idea! ( Hey Chico hear that!! ).
Anyway yes sad to see Chico just die a death of a thousnd cuts but race fans its true, its not getting fixed, and doubtful any long term solution will be found. Goodgye Silver Dollar, goodbye Gold Cup oh how so many will miss you. The End!!!

I think you nailded it with your post.
If not for the hard work that Troy Hannig puts into Silver Dollar Speedway all the time, it would be hard to go there now.

We've raced for some 30 years at Chico in the Stock Cars, not Sprints, and while we like the track they have never been able to get bodies in the stands for the regular Friday night races. Padjen made it work by the Gold Cup and a couple of other big shows (remember when the Silver Cup was a big deal Stock Car show?) making money to carry the weekly races. That doesn't happen any more.

Some of us can also remember the many many mains on Saturday. Stacked fields thursday and friday. Cars and fans from all over the US and Canada. We made the trek yearly, from Oregon. As a kid was my favorite time of the year. Really gone downhill sorry to say

Wolfgang won in 1982 in Gary Stanton's #75. On the prelim night he flipped, did a cool looking twisting-spiral roll in the air when he launched off the wheel of another car. Thurs. had 72 cars take time trials, 82 cars on Fri. 120 cars in the pits on Fri. Those days are gone, biggest reason the cost of racing. The little guys that made the show aren't here now, and there's little support for 410 racing. How about starting a 305 class? It would be much cheaper and serve as a stepping stone to the more powerful classes (hopefully 410s). Nothing wrong with 360 races, except if you had a choice of going to see 20 cars in a 410 main or 20 cars in a 360 main which would you choose? I'd choose the 410's.

I don't think we need a 305 class at Chico. If you count the 360 cars that show up at the races from, Cottage Grove down to Tulare you will find well over a 120 360's.
Silver Dollar use to be the track drivers would go and see if they could beat the best on the west coast, but with the purse Chico will likely pay I don't think you will see the top cars any time soon.
There was a guy that towed down from Alaska to race at Chico for the Fall Naionals now maybe one car will make the tow from Oregon.
Yes, I do like the 410's but having said that, just go watch the Trophy Cup (360). Put the top drivers in pedal cars and you will still have a great race.
