So I pull up the win list off the WoO site...Paul McMahan (with 26 wins) drops off the tour and also drops off the all-time win list????  smh

I don't know what happened to McMahon but what I find amazing is Gravel already has more wins than some big names in WoO history. More than Andy Hillenburg, Jeff Swindell, Shane Stewart, Bobby Allen. I know David has had a couple really good years but these guys were around for a really long time. 

Someone with more time than I have would have to research this but Lasoski may have more wins in total than everyone but Kinser on this list. 90 with the WoO, well over 100 at Knoxville (112 I think), alot at Husets. There was a long period of time that he was winning damn near everything in the midwest. Pretty impressive. And this isn't counting 360 wins. 

I would say that Doug would be right behind Kinser, I know for a fact that he has over 500 total wins in his career. Its probably Kinser, Wolfgang, Swindell, Lasoski if we are counting total wins,  maybe evel Lasoski ahead of Swindell, as I do not see Sammy having 200 wins off the outlaw tour, MAYBE somewhere between 50-75, but as far as I knew, he mainly ran the outlaw tour (with the exception of his NASCAR venture) up until 2010 ish, and to be honest, he didn;t exactly set the world on fire since then, sure he won a few, but he didn't win 50, maybe 20. Just my guess.

This list also doesn’t include prelim wins prior to 2007. Schatz will likely pass Sammy in 2020 and it’ll be a bit hollow given how many woo wins Sammy has that don’t count. I saw an old AARN from 2000 that said Sammy won a prelim show at the end of the year and it was his 10th prelim victory of the season. None of them counted towards the number listed above.

Can someone go back and count up all the full field prelim races between 1978-2006 and add them to these totals.

Super Chuck thinks these numbers are somewhat skewed due to the prelim thing.  Back in the day they only counted the second night of a two-day show as an official win, and it sure feels like they had a lot more two-day shows back then.  This can explain how someone like a David Gravel can rack up career win total a lot faster than say a Andy Hillenburg or Jeff Swindell, absolutely taking NOTHING away from Gravel (he's a badass)...just stating the facts.

Chris Dolack once tried to tabulate the prelim wins to rectify the win totals, but finding the records of the early years proved impossible.  To make it right you'd have to count all prelims...not just the ones you could find, so the project was scrapped.

Super Chuck says Lasoski has 446 documented feature wins (124 under the WoO banner), 117 different tracks in 31 States.  If you're counting.

Counting Prelims, there is no telling how many more wins

would be listed for Kinser, Sammy, Wolfie and some others.

I know Saldana has like 10 or 11 prelims that don't count on the totals.

Its a shame they didn't count them and they have no records to go back and look at.

The only people who probably know the true win totals are the drivers themselves if they kept count...

Last year really helped Gravel move his name up the list.   Hope he has another one like that if not even better.  

I went to a site that featured Sammy and added up 526 sprint wins but it ended in 2009 and some years were not reported so I think we could easily say about 550.  He also had 108 Modified wins back in the early 70's which I am not sure if they were early sprint cars back then or what.  He had over 30 wins in 1977, 1983,  1990, 91, 92 and 1997 as well with a couple of 29's and a 28 win season also.  That should put him pretty close to 2nd if not definitely 2nd, certainly ahead of the Dude also.....

I actually researched Kinser's prelim wins a few years back. I had him winning 143 prelim wins from 1978-2005 so his actual total is something around 720. His career total including his early days in Indiana, All Stars, and Australia I would guess is something just above 900.

I wonder whar the rationale is for the WoO not counting prelims? One could make a good case that it was actually more difficult to win on the prelim night because the top 4 cars on prelim night did not have to qualify the following night and always started on the front rows of the final night feature. The prelim features were usually only 20 laps, but the WoO would count a 16 lap feature today complete, if it was scheduled for 30 laps and the rain washed out its completion.

You would have to ask Ted Johnson that question and unfortunately he is dead. Whether there was a legit reason or not that was the way Ted wanted it to be and it was his series so that's the way it was in any number of ways.

 For some reason I thought the reason for not counting prelim's is because several of them featured a split field with only half the cars going each night.....like the Knoxville National's or Chili Bowl.  (something that used to be more common, no?)  Is my memory rusty or is there something to that?   

Too bad that sprintcarstats.com has went dark.   The question would have been easy to answer there.

Also considering his year with The Destiny #7 was his only year of never winning a race in a season. 

It's no secret that I'm a Wolfgang fan. Given the right equipment to compete in, I consider him the best. On those occasions when he did have equipment on par with the top dogs, he kicked all their butts! Where as Karl was able to modify his privately owned Gambler chasis in those early years, Doug was not allowed to make any modifications of his own to the Gambler house car when he drove it in 1982, so in that regard, Kinser had an advantage. But the most facinating fact in his career to me, is the staggering win total he amassed in such a short career! His final years of racing....1992-1997....don't add up to too many wins. That's after the first severe crash in 1992 and up to 1997 when he actually was forced to quit after the last crash. So, his racing career really spanned (1973) 1974-1991. Thats a total of around eighteen years to amass a total of nearly 600 feature wins. Sammy, Steve and many others have had 35 year careers and even longer. Hell, Schatz has already had a longer career than Wolfgang. Here's to ya, Doug!     My All Time!                                                                                         

Oh I know, it's quite amazing what he was able to accomplish. I've known doug since I was young, (Mind you, I was only 3 or 4 years old when he had his 1997 crash) so I never got to see him race. I was working for a tree company in Tea from 2014-2015 and he was a mechanic for us that would come in and work from around 7:30 to noon. Every morning before leaving Doug and I would have conversations about his racing, and its amazing the way he carried himself. I brought that up one time in conversation after thinking "Man, Doug, you accomplished all that in half the time it took the other 2/3 of the big three, imagine what would have happened had you run a full career up until the late 2000s or so!" and I swear he looked at me dead in the eyes and said "I guess I was alright, but you can't speculate what might happen, for all we know I might have never won another race."

I have to agree, even though I never got to see him race, because of my friendship and work relationship with Doug, he will always be my favorite in my mind. I remember my first year in 305s after moving up from micros, Doug was always one of the first that would lend a helping hand, even though we were racing against Robby. I still remain good friends with the family to this day.

I haven't ran but 5 races since the 2015 season, but the pinnacle of my so far short racing career, was no doubt walking into work on monday morning (Actually, now that I think about it, it was Tuesday morning, we had us too good a time Sunday Night) after winning my first race Sunday at Husets and Doug saying "Boy, you're getting around in that sprint car pretty good for it being your 7th time out! You could be alright at this!" That right there, trumped any win in anything I ever drove, lol!

I sat with Doug for a while at a friends wedding years ago and we had a private conversation covering a lot of things I wouldn't really tell anyone, I'm telling you it was entertaining and fun and I have had few such conversations with many other humans to this date.  How's that for a run-on sentence, lol....
