I have been looking at the schedules for the local tracks for the upcoming year and have noticed something that has me a bit confused and possibly worried. A few years ago the ASCS was jettisoned and the Western Sprint Tour took its place. Since the ASCS departure I have noticed dwindling car counts at the Northwest Speedweek events that are held at Willamette Speedway and Sunset Speedway. Namely the Californians are no longer coming in appreciable numbers. I'm not sure why this is happening, but it is concerning. Now I see that there is a new sanctioning body called ISCS. To me it doesn't seem like Oregon can support two rival winged 360 series. I worry about one or the other siphoning cars from the other leading to diluted car counts for both series. Are they competing series or will the ISCS and WST be running completely different dates so as not to have conflicts? Since the WST mostly races at Cottage Grove I would welcome more races at Willamette Speedway which is closer to my home, but not at the expense of the health of 360 racing in Oregon overall. Can anyone shed light on this situation? I can find almost no information on the ISCS online and the full WST schedule has not yet been released. Thanks.

I thought that the entire WST schedule for the past few years has been reduced to sprint week during July. If that’s the case this year, then I don’t see any conflicts with the ISCS schedule. In fact, it looks like Oregon will have two sprint weeks in 2018 — one in July and another in August. I hope both are successful, but I wonder about car counts.

That may well be the case with the WST. I am unable to make any races any further away than Willamette Speedway so I don't normally check the whole WST shedule, just the track schedules. I agree with your concern about car counts. It seems to me that things may have been better under the ASCS sanction.

Hi,  ISCS is not a 360 series.  It is Sportsman sprints, limited sprints, 305 and crate motors.  In recent years WST has scheduled 360 speedweek at Yreka and Oregon tracks.   Washington now operates STSS which has 360's scheduled at Skagit, Grays Harbor, Yakima and Cottage Grove.  Hope that explains it a bit more.

Thank you for the information. The sprint car racing scene here in Oregon is a lot different than from my native state of California with far fewer cars and races despite some pretty decent tracks. I may have to trek up to Grays Harbor again one of these days but it's a bit of a haul from Portland for a night of racing.  Not sure what the car counts are like up there for their standard show. Thank God the Outlaws race at Willamette Speedway in September or the season would pretty much be a be a loss in my book. Also, for some reason I was under the impression the WST ran regular shows at Cottage Grove, which is also a bit of a drive for me. I guess they don't though. I was totally unaware of the STSS. Looks like most of their races are too far away for me. I wish they'd race at Willamette since that's closer and is a damn good track. Oh well.

Head up to Grays Harbor for the Brownfield Classic ASCS National race the weekend of June 29 and 30.  That way you get two nights of racing with a good car count.  Last year 37 - 360's Friday and Saturday.  If you can't make it then go to a regular weekly show when Skagit isn't running 360's as well as some of the cars will travel.  No longer huge car counts for a weekly show.   

Thanks for the info. I recall ISCS starting as a 360 series before it disappeared for a few years. I’m not the biggest fan of the limited engines, but I hope the series does well. 

I'm planning on heading up to Grays Harbor for the June 30th race this year instead of the WST NW speedweek event at Willamette Speedway. Since it's a ASCS National event I expect that it should be pretty good. Is it common for a few California drivers make the long trek to Washington for the Fred Brownfield Classic?

Californa drivers have been a scarcity in Washington for a few years now.  I see there is a SCT race at Placerville that weekend so I doubt you'll see any make the tow.

Not only because of the big points race at Placerville; very few CA cars run the fully legal ASCS motor rules.

They don't have ASCS racing in CA!
