Yes I would stay in Mechanicsburg or Harrisburg area. Few min from Williams Grove and probably an hour and change from Lincoln and Port Royal. I would not however stay in Hanover. Place is dump. A lot of outsiders choose to stay in Hanover and then leave saying... "man people in PA are weird." When it's not the case. There's just something in the water down there. If ya choose to stay in Hanover, don't drink outta the faucet.

Stay around carlisle. You can day trip to hershey, latimer valley fairgrounds, not really sure if anything is going on at carlisle. There is a military base I believe in or around Harrisburg. Not sure if they have a barracks there or not. If your into American history, civil war, Gettysburg is south on rt. 30... path valley to the big 1/2 miles. You won't be disappointed.

Carlisle Barracks, home of the Army War College, is located in the middle of this area.
Here is the web address for that post with information on services and housing:

Yea, Carlisle has lots of inexpensive motels, centrally located to Pa. Turnpike, I-81 etc.
& there's a back road to Williams Grove, avoid highway, tolls & traffic, about 15 minute drive thru pretty countryside: Middlesex Rd.
Back road to Port Royal is even prettier, I think Rt. 74?

Yup. From Carlisle take 74 through Ickesburg and head up over the mountain. When you get to the bottom hang a right on 75 and drive right in to Port Royal. It is a fun and scenic drive, but so is 322. You can't go wrong either way.

Yea, 322 is pretty too, more direct
Last summer I was listening to a good new CD of a country singer I know & really enjoyed taking my time winding over those country roads on 74... great view from the top of Waggoner's Pass if you get out of your car & walk 5 minutes!
