That said 360ci engines and starters in WoO cars by 2016. I remembered it today at work, and forgot who said it... I know it was/is someone on this forum, just cant rememebr who said it. I think his name was something like "sprint car fan".... cant remember though...

That's a far cry from 18-20 full-time 410 travelers lined up for 2018, isn't it!!!

People on this board have been predicting the demise of the WoO for years, but the crowds stayed after the King retired and now they are as strong as ever.

It was a prediction by someone on this forum. Not much difference in cost between a 360 and a 410 even back then and if the WoO and the All Stars and USAC went to 360 only, they would eventually cost a lot more because car owners/drivers would then really be desperate to make more HP out of them thus upping the cost.

I could handle a switch to 360 engines - although I wouldn't like it, but starters would not go over well. The amount of weight a starter and everything that comes with that would add in conjunction with a switch to 360s would put the cars barely above the HP/Weight Ratio range of a 305. I love 305s, but not paying $35 per ticket to see 305 Speeds even with the best drivers in the world. So I say that before those things would happen Sprint car racing would just cease to exist. Whoever the guy is that predicted that is infact a moron as you stated.
Thanks,
Jeff.

I do not know how many of you remember this, but USAC had new rule that midgets would have to have starters. I think this was sometime in 1990s. The drivers/owners revolted and rule was quickly changed. The owners/drivers of 410 would also revolt, and it wouild never happen.

Rebuild Time depends on what you're doing with them. If you're not running them too hard, they can last 12 or so shows, maybe 15. When I was on the road last season, I remember a few of the crew chiefs on the nascar affiliated teams saying "If I pull a plug after Time Trials and theres not metal on the tip of it, it wasn't running hard enough." those guys probably 6-8 shows, or even maybe less, I don't know. All depends on how hard you run it and how lean youre willing to go. Keep in mind, average rebuild on a good 410 is $7000 and up, We could run our 360s back in the day (2007-2009 ish) as hard as they will run for 20-22 shows and average rebuild cose was $3500, unless it needed pistons and such. In 410s now days pistons and all that are almost needed every rebuild. for sure every 2.

Terry McCarl won a WoO A main with a motor that had 18 or 19 nights on it.

He might have, but in general people don't let them go that long. Thats not sayint that they can't go that long, its just not ideal.
I know someone a few years ago that won a 360 race at Rock Rapids IA that had 37 shows on the valve springs. (not on a freshen, on the VALVE SPRINGS)
I know a few good 410s in the Sioux Falls Area that get sent in to get freshened after 700 or so laps. Sure they could go longer, as they aren't running them on absolute kill mode every lap, but thats motor builder recomendation. 700/50 laps a night at most, is 14 shows, figure most nights will be roughtly 35-40 laps, that gives you 14-18 shows before a freshen.
I'm sure McCarl didn't run many more shows on that motor before it got sent back or sold, I like Terry, and he runs a smart and professional team.
Take care of stuff and it will last, change the valve springs every 6-8 shows, check the leak down every time you do maintenance, and if everything checks out you can run that extra 1 or two shows without having to worry too much.
