Longtime car owner/mechanic/engine builder Dean Sylvester of Hedrick, Iowa passed away yesterday. Dean was a Korean War veteran who received two Purple Hearts and a Bronze Star. Dean spent his whole life involved in racing, and was still attending races and working on race cars into his late '80's. Dean is a member of the Knoxville Raceway Hall of Fame and the Southern Iowa Speedway Hall of Fame. He will be greatly missed by his family and many friends.
