Can we take the track surface and the man who prepares the Lincoln PA Speedway and send them out to Ohio to teach tracks how to do it right? Tonight's show I just saw at Lincoln had a great surface all night long, and gasp, yes a cushion that was never tampered with the entire night. That is how you do it right. Great show tonight. Great track. Lincoln does it right for sure.

I visited Lincoln once back in 2009 for an allstar show. They ran at the Grove the night before, so me and a couple of buddies made a weekend of it. Yes, the track prep was impressive. So impressive, in fact, that a very heavy rain rolled in in the evening and they had the track back in shape in a very short time. I'll always remember how impressed I was with them. However, there's great track prep at some of our Ohio tracks on a weekly basis. The folks that run Attica have their shit together. Even if the track slicks off there's always a minimum of two competitive lines. You can't ask for much more than that. That isn't always the case with other tracks in our state, but it's not a statewide issue as you suggest.

You're right. I didn't mean to come across as I was bashing all the Ohio tracks. I live in Ohio, and I was just visiting family in Mechanicsburg this weekend so I hit Lincoln tonight. I am thankful to live where I do there and have seen some great racing there this year. However, I also can't remember a track like tonight with a cushion all night long that was never touched, and little dust. One track in Ohio could definitely learn something from Lincoln tonight, and you can probably guess which one I'm talking about. Thanks for pointing out what I should have clarified in my original post.

I was there too and it was a great night. Of the 3 weekly 410 tracks, no one does it better. The best track prep and the best racing occur most consistently at Lincoln. It's refreshing to see a track with adequate moisture and a nice cushion that wasn't beaten to a pulp with push trucks. Another great night at Lincoln.

Changing of the tune yet again...  SMH. 

Yhe 358 Heats were the best group oh heats I've seen all year....Lincon once again proved to me why it's my favorite Central PA track.....

I was only there twice in 2017 but it is the best Saturday night 410 track in PA.....from track prep to the racing on the track!

Good surface, some very good racing......but get rid of that race announcer. There is no need to scream every lap of every race to the point where only every other word is understandable! Too bad, because without the damn screaming, it sounds like he'd have a great announcers voice!

Give the fellow a chance to groom his craft. Wayne Harper can’t announce forever unfortunately.

Hopefully for Lincoln's sake, they can find someone if Wayne is unable to return. His voice will be extremely difficult to replicate. He is a great announcer, by far the best in Central PA and perhaps anywhere in the country 

The announcer Saturday night announces at another Saturday track during the season and his own track on Fridays. It is what it is as far as the product.

I like wayne Harper as well. Where is he? Did not know he was no longer announcing. I never understood trying to announce during a race. You cannot hear them anyway except background nouce at best.

i know you cant hear him during the race, but it does show up on the live streaming and videos that are made, but yes the guy doesnt need to scream...lol.. at the dirt classic they announced wayne was not feeling well..hope it isnt something serious

It definately was a rim riding track last night, I wouldn't say it was a multi groove track for the features but the sprint features were exciting with the light cushion pretty much at the wall. The 358 heat races were pretty cool with a lot of side by side racing. Wish there could have been a bottom groove for the features, DD and Montieth tried the bottom on several occasions but it just wasn't there, it was a windy day so the track was what it was. When cars are at speed you just can't hear the PA system no matter who is announcing. I like Harper, been listening to him for decades, he knows the sport and is a good announcer, that being said, nobody works forever. IMO Dave Hare is one of the best announcers in the business right now. Dave is very keen on what is going on in central PA racing and does a wonderful job as MC of many of the EMMR events, Susky is lucky to have him as their announcer. I heard some scuttlebut earlier this summer that Fred Putney is thinking about retiring because he can't make all of todays whiney drivers happy. BTW, I was there, not watching on a computer

Depends on the track. Some tracks like Port Royal simulcast the announcer on a local FM transmitter So you can hear the announcer if desired. Personally I think all tracks should do this, but that’s my opinion. 

No doubt Lincoln and Fred Putney do a very good job at track prep. I often though of them to be one of the best around across the US. Then i moved to Indiana and went to Kokomo and Tri State and that ranking changed drastically. 

Yes, Indiana and Illinois for that matter are a completely different world from PA. Seems to me the tracks in IN and IL actually work the tracks during the events instead of just steam rolling the surface down like most PA tracks.

Where was Wayne Harper?  Please don't tell me he is retiring or already has, my favorite in the sport and I wince saying this because I have some good friends who are also Excellent.  Getting to know Wayne and Bill in the booth there was one of the highlights of my many trips to PA....

we were told at the KK race that Wayne is under the weather...and are hopeful that he is getting better as he is the traditional voice of Lincon Speedway.

IMO Dave Hare has a great FM radio voice and I enjoy his announcing when he is on the mic.

I also agree that all local tracks should add low power FM transmitters to their system where allowed by FCC so fans can use standard radios with headsets to hear what is going on...two benefits: the sound system does not have to be as loud during down time and you can be in the know during the action while protecting your hearing from open header racing.
