Does anyone know when they’re planning on running the makeup feature? Is it going to be after the A main, after time trials...

As of now, it will be the last event run Thursday night.

Seems like the wrong way to do it. I thought they would hot lap then race the postponed feature..imo you shouldnt have to risk ripping up equip before racing in a race you have already qualified for.

How many of those qualified wont or cant make it back to race their feature?

Even though I may not know you, I
care what most of you think!

if it is run first, the track prep crew can keep the "wide" surface from last week and save alot of water...fans will be pissed for the entire night, but we have seen this happen many times.

the make up event is way less important than the 3 day format Grove Open IMO and should be run afterward or in the daytime Saturday when it will really suck.

Maybe the question is, what type of track preparation is going on right now?? Is the track being worked in for the biggest event of the year, or will they wait until noon tmrw to start getting the track ready, ready for a night when there is going to be a lot more laps turned than any other night of the year so far??

I don't know what to tell you...folks are camping there now, maybe they can chime in?

Been going there since 1964 and in recent years I have found that my only guarantee of a good experience at the Grove is to sit with some quality people...and the folks around me are good people that make up for crappy racing everytime they were called upon to salvage the night.

My guess is you will see posts after one or more of the shows where "the sun was out all day"...or "the wind blew the flags" and perhaps include "they don't sell pizza on the backstrech" as the reason why the track slicked off in the 2nd session of hot laps...stay tuned!

I must agree that if you surround yourself with quality people at the big grove races it helps to make up for a lackluster racing experience. Been going to the grove since '78 and have seen a whole bunch of good races there including many national opens. The weekly programs at the grove are proof that times have changed for one reason or another and fans are not interested in their product that much anymore. IMO the grove has had some decent racing surfaces this year and I enjoyed some of the handicapped shows, but the TT shows just don't offer much excitement. I used to complain when heat races went from 10 laps to 8 laps at the grove but now due to lack of passing I wouldn't mind if they were 4 laps. Locked down slot car racing just doesn't seem to offer much passing on the big half miles anymore regardless of track conditions.

After watching the dual heat race format at Lincoln this past week...there is a better way that wouldn't put alot of extra laps on the engines.

  • shitcan TTs and inverts altogether for all weekly races...draw pills for heat start
  • run 5 laps / throw checkers for heat race segmant 1- talbulate passing points for segment 1
  • leave the cars on the track - line them back up with full invert of the original pill draw
  • restart and run 5 more laps / throw checkers for heat race segmant 1- tabulate passing poiints for segment 2
  • passing points tabulation for straight up A main grid

Sounds like a great format to produce a zero passing feature. The only feature line-up that's worse than a TT show is a passing points line-up. Most people come to see the feature and don't care for sitting through a long, drawn-out, often non-sensical, qualifying procedure . How about just scrapping heats and add those laps to the feature. Run TT's and the top 18-20(depending on car count) go straight gto the A with a re-draw to shake things up, then a B-main to fill out the field, then a longer feature.

I like the 5 lap heats then inverting them and I don't mind passing points but there has to be some kind of inversion for the fearture. The cars that pass other cars in the heats will probably be able to pass cars in the feature also.

so I am the only person that saw cars passing other cars last week at Kasey Kahne race throughtout the ENTIRE night...A main included?

the only difference in my format is NO TIME TRIALS...

don't sweat it fellas...no local track will try this format because it has no historic tradition in this country...

like I said in other posts, if it wasn't for the niuce group of people that have reserved seats near mine the majority of the weekly races would not get a dime from me if evaluated on their entertainment value.

what we have sucks at least 50% of the time...but don't change it...right?

I will still keep paying for the seats regardless of wether I use them as much next year...out of respect to my buddies who would probably get pissed off if one of you bought them after I give them up.

I like it...

As for "no passing A-Main", they could redraw for top 4 or 6 positions

I know some Central Pa. fans on here put down Philly, but Philly fans are well known for booing their own teams....

It looks like Dirtvision might be charging separately for make up race...

Hard to tell, its listed separately. I got the National Open, not sure if they will cut off broadcast before make up...

What does this have to do with Philly ball and stick teams? I don't get where you are coming from? I don't recall anyone on this thread bashing on a team.

BTW BRR this years heat races at the dirt classic were pretty lame compared to last years heat races at the same event and probably the year before. I'm not trying to start an argument, just stating what I witness from the stands. Maybe the action is better where you are sitting. Unfortunately most of the heat races I have seen at lincoln this year are locked down follow the leader affairs after 2 or 3 laps, and I go there almost every week.

I was just making the comparison to Posse fans complaining about the Grove....

More of a wisecrack than anything else
