Wow Cody Sommer is really putting Mansfield on the map and his money on the line! Cannot wait for this event next year! Also, by locking Saturday's top 3 into the main event for a $100k to win show some more drivers may end up coming. Especially if you're starting deep in the C main and unlikely to make the feature at Knoxville. Excited to go to the Great Lakes Dirt Nationals this Friday and Saturday for FAST/OSCS 410, FAST 305, and BOSS nonwing sprints. $15k to win for 410s Saturday and guaranteed starting spot in $100k to win show in 2018, $5k to win for nonwings, and $3k for 305's on Saturday!

$100,000 TO WIN SPRINT CAR WORLD CHAMPIONSHIP SET FOR 2018

April 27th/28th Mansfield to host one of the biggest dirt races in the world

MANSFIELD,OH. — Mansfield Motor Speedway has entered one of their biggest weekends of the year, as the Great Lakes Dirt Nationals will take place this weekend on Friday August 11th and Saturday August 12th .  Teams will start moving in on Thursday August 10th for the optional practice night.  Tickets for the weekend event are on sale now and can be purchased online in advance before race day for a chance to save $5 per ticket ($10 both days) at www.MansfieldMotorSpeedway.com/Tickets  In what is already a big weekend for Mansfield Motor Speedway, the Great Lakes Dirt Nationals weekend just got BIGGER with Mansfield Motor Speedway breaking news.

On April 27th and 28th 2018 Mansfield Motor Speedway will host one of the biggest dirt races in the world with the inaugural “Sprint Car World Championship” an event paying an impressive $100,000 to the 410 Winged sprint car event race winner.  The weekend will have preliminary features on Friday which help set the format for Saturdays massive event.  Additionally a non-qualifiers race will be hosted for teams not making the Sprint Car World Championship main event on Saturday.  More information regarding the event will continue to be put together and released throughout the remainder of the year but one special note relevant to this weekends Great Lakes Dirt Nationals is already known.

The top 3 finishers of the $15,000 to Win Great Lakes Dirt Nationals main event will be locked into the Sprint Car World Championship next April with provisional starting spots, certainly something teams will be keeping closely in mind this Saturday at Mansfield Motor Speedway.

“We are excited to take on phase 2 of Mansfield Motor Speedway’s #BACKTODIRT movement and continue making Mansfield Motor Speedway a “Motorsports Destination” as we have always said was important to us and was the overall goal.  This year has been about establishing ourselves, learning some things, what to do, what not to do, gather useful information and then take the next step in the process…we are at that point now.  The announcement of this race for next year is a big example of what this venue can and should be used for” Said President, Cody Sommer.  “Adding those provisionals to this weekends race is our way of saying thank you to teams supporting Mansfield Motor Speedway and we are excited to see what drivers lock themselves into the Sprint Car World Championship next year” Sommer added.

This season, Mansfield Motor Speedway has spent a lot of time establishing itself, developing different areas and processes along the way and has shown major improvement every time the gates open.  It has seen large crowds, great racing and a diverse group of competitors and fans.  However, Sommer indicates there are still many things he wants to do at Mansfield and does not intend on settling anytime soon.

“I have a big picture in mind for this place (Mansfield Motor Speedway) and have every reason to believe that what we are doing is getting us closer and closer to that vision being reality.  We certainly have some things we are going to continue to work on but it is all necessary and part of the process.  A lot of these things have either already started or we are in the process of starting.  For next April (Sprint Car World Championship) we will be developing specific camping lots and parking spots, hillside seating in turns 1 and 2, Overflow parking, various roadways on property amongst many other things” Said Sommer.  “We have a special project that we are working on for the back stretch at the track that will certainly set us apart from any other track in the country and provide fans an exclusive and unique experience down our back straight away”

Additional information regarding the April 27th/28th Sprint Car World Championship will be released soon and made available to both teams and fans.

Cool idea, hopefully it turns out successful for them next spring. Somewhat dislike anything to entice drivers away from Knoxville this weekend but I guess it gives an option to teams heading east that may have had a bad Nationals week.

I'm getting an HBO vibe from all of this. I'll cross my fingers and hope for the best.

Looking forward to going to that...but confused. How do you sell tickets for $10 yet pay 100 to the winner?

15,000 this weekend probably wont bring many away from Knoxville. Looks like the 100,000 to win show next year is in the spring. It would be silly to put two big shows like that on the same day. The weekend following Nationals always looks like a good place for a big show but some are already spent from the Nationals.

Doesn't the article read "SAVE $10.00" on the two day show if purchased online in advance?

Why doe's everybody think this needs a sanction. & if the WOO can't let their drivers be there because of THIER rule then tough shit. If it effects the next race then penalize them. Simple as that.

Pretty much this. If they skip a $100k race for reasons of sanctioning, they do not deserve "Outlaw" status.

Penalties aside, real reacers will show up.

Also, is this the guy who put on the indoor dirt late model race in St Louis?

Top three this weekend get provisionals into the $100K race next year is more what I'm getting at.

Yes Sommer got a Three Year Lease with a buy option at the conclusion of the lease from Milliron (the guy who owns the land, won it in auction for cheap when it closed years ago). He's done a good job of putting Mansfield on the map in a hurry this year.

I agree. 100k on the line and no sanction i think is a great idea. Outlaws used to go were the $$$ where, well lets see if they are true outlaws or just ride on a banner.  WoO is probably going to book there circus as close to the west coast as possible for that weekend.

I for one hope it remains an unsactioned event and is a huge success. The hell with "fake" Outlaw status! Besides.....giving some of the best racers in the country outside of the WoO an opportunity at some big money is a good deal. Maybe if more promoters would follow this model, the WoO as a sanctioning body might take notice and find new ways to improve their product.

If it pays well on back you next year could have a point there.

WoO had 1 race in Plymouth, IN on that weekend this year.

Perhaps someone else can help me out, I don't remember 100%. I did not think the KR and the HBO were sanctioned races for a very long time. Friday at the KR was an All Star race but Saturday was not. I remember the All Star officials ran the races and All Star rulesbook was used, but they were not All Star sanctioned races. I think the HBO was ran the same way. The WoO did not schedule against Earl then, it will be interesting to see if they will now or if they will somehow they sanction the race. Anyone have a better memory than me?

I cannot imagine any of the WoO guys not wanting to run for that cash.

They had better hope the Outlaws and All-Stars schedule the weekend off.  If they don't it will be like watching a FAST show not that there is anything wrong with that but a few big names certainly wouldn't hurt the crowd  Don't know admission prices but if you're paying to watch the local weekly warriors good luck, you can watch them at Attica and Fremont for a very respectful price already.  Larson, Rico and Bell would be a good start as far as bringing in some stars without affiliation.  Guess we'll see, good luck to these folks, hope it works well....

I hate to break it to folks, but if you think any of the WoO drivers are going to forfeit the perks that they get by being premium members you must live in an alternative universe. Those advantages are just too darned good to give up for a CHANCE at $100K.

I am lucky enough to work at one of the best tracks
anywhere.

Yea like the time they all stuck it to the WoO during the mopar million and all ran it...oh wait

I know message boards don't represent popular opinion at all but why wouldnt you want to see the best of the best race for the 2nd biggest purse? It's just odd to me.
